International League Of Antiquarian Booksellers
The International League of Antiquarian Booksellers is a non-profit umbrella organization of bookseller associations, with its legal location in Geneva, Switzerland. It federates 22 National Associations of Antiquarian Booksellers, representing nearly 2000 dealers in 32 countries. Antiquarian booksellers affiliated to the League adhere to the ILAB Code of Ethics, and the League aims to server as a global network for the rare book trade. Antiquarian Booksellers' Association Of America
The Antiquarian Booksellers' Association of America (ABAA) is an organization in the United States for dealers in rare and antiquarian books. The association is a member of the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers (ILAB). History Founded in 1949, the ABAA is the benchmark for professionalism and ethics in the rare book trade in the US. The founding of the ABAA was the direct result of the founding of the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers (ILAB) a year earlier: "It was quickly recognized in the United States that national and international cooperation among booksellers was an idea whose time had come and that an American association was vital for the interests of professional booksellers." Antiquarian Booksellers Association
The Antiquarian Booksellers' Association (ABA) is the senior trade body in the British Isles for dealers in antiquarian and rare books, manuscripts and allied materials. The ABA organises a number of book fairs every year including its flagship fair held at Olympia, London in May, which features exhibitors from all around the world, and the Chelsea Antiquarian Book Fair in November. Fairs are held in Edinburgh in March and Bristol in July in conjunction with the Provincial Book Fairs Association. The ABA sponsors the London Rare Books School, the York Antiquarian Book Seminar, and a series of seminars at the University of London. Vereinigung der Buchantiquare und Kupferstichhändler in der Schweiz (VEBUKU), the antiquarian booksellers association of Switzerland, was founded in 1939 and has been a member of the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers (ILAB) since 1947. The VEBUKU unites people dealing in old and modern prints and drawings, old and rare books, periodicals, manuscripts and autographs. Its aim is to protect and encourage a fair trade based on the experience and cultural responsibility of its members. Nederlandsche Vereeniging van Antiquaren (NVvA), the Dutch antiquarian booksellers' association, was founded in 1935 with the object of promoting reliability in the trade of old books and prints. History Similar antiquarian book trade organisations existed in other countries. These formed themselves in 1947, with the Dutch Association as one of its promoters, into the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers (ILAB), composed of associations from 22 countries. Members of the NVvA are thus part of an international network of dealers who, thanks to their expertise and to the rules of behaviour imposed by their associations, form the best contacts for collectors of old books and prints. Associazione Librai Antiquari D'Italia
The Associazione dei Librai Antiquari d'Italia (ALAI), the national antiquarian book association of Italy, was founded in 1947 as ''Circolo dei Librai Antiquari''. In spite of a previous attempt, established in the 1880s by Italian jurist Carlo Lozzi and his review ''Il bibliofilo'', the association was created only after the Second World War and it assumed its current name in 1971. ALAI includes 116 members throughout Italy and its main scope is to promote the knowledge about ancient and rare books, as well as to represent the Italian antiquarian booksellers within the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers (ILAB), whose it is a founding member. Syndicat National de la Librairie Ancienne et Moderne (SLAM), the national antiquarian book association of France, was created in 1914. Its primary objective is to make the public aware of the world of antique books. It is the sole representative of the antique book trade in France, and as such plays an active part in maintaining relations with the public administration as well as with private organisations and bookdealers. Belgian Antiquarian Booksellers Association
La Chambre Professionelle Belge de la Librairie Ancienne et Moderne (CLAM)/Belgische Beroepskamer van Antiquaren (BBA) (Belgian Antiquarian Booksellers Association), is the Belgian professional chamber of antiquarian booksellers. Founded in 1946 and member of the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers, CLAM-BBA has 40 members from Antwerp, Bruges, Brussels, Ghent, Liège, Louvain, Mechelen and Namur and foreign associated members from France and the United States. Members are specialized in buying and selling precious books, prints, autographs, ancient and modern manuscripts. Danish Antiquarian Booksellers Association
The Danish Antiquarian Booksellers' Association ( da, Den Danske Antikvarboghandlerforening ABF) is a Danish organization of professional antiquarian booksellers. It is the oldest league of antiquarian booksellers in Scandinavia as well as one of the oldest of its kind in the world, only preceded by the English ABA and the French SLAM. The purpose of the association is to standardize the descriptions of books, preserve and develop the trade, and represent the trade to the public. All ABF members are bound to adhere to the ILAB Code of Ethics. Antiquarian Booksellers Association Of Austria
The Antiquarian Booksellers Association of Austria, formed in 1949, includes those Austrian antiquarian booksellers who exclusively or primarily buy and sell antiquarian books, magazines, prints, autograph letters or music. The members of the association submit themselves to the Austrian version of the "Rules, Customs and Usages" of the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers to which the Austrian Association is affiliated. The Australian and New Zealand Association of Antiquarian Booksellers (ANZAAB), formed in 1977, is the professional body which represents the members of the antiquarian book business in Australia and New Zealand. It aims to promote the standing, welfare, and growth of the local antiquarian book business. It seeks to encourage the observance of courtesies and honorable practices traditionally associated with the trade between its members, and to discourage practices capable of bringing disrepute to antiquarian bookselling.
