Bhangra (music)
Bhangra () is a type of non-traditional music of Punjab originating in the Southall area of United Kingdom. It is a type of upbeat popular music associated with the Punjabi diaspora in Britain. The style has its origins in the folk music of Punjab as well as western pop music of the 1970s and 1980s. Prior to this musical fusion, Bhangra existed only as a dance form in the native Punjab. This British music was unique in that it was not traditional nor did it seek any authenticity. While the traditional folk music of Punjab has a set of melodies that are used by various singers, Bhangra was a form of strict "band culture" in that new melodies were composed for each song. DCS are a British Asian live Bhangra band formed in 1983. They are seen as one of the first bands of the UK Bhangra scene along with other bands such as Alaap, Apna Sangeet, Heera, Shava Shava led by Nirmal Kumar Nirmal and many more. Jagwinder Singh Dhaliwal ( Punjabi: ਜਗਵਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਧਾਲੀਵਾਲ, born 19 November 1977), is an Indian English singer from Southall, London of Indian Punjabi Sikh descent. Music Juggy D has been performing since the age of 14. He made his breakthrough alongside Jay Sean. Juggy D has also appeared on numerous crossover singles with musicians such as Madonna, Ricky Martin, Mary J. Blige and Craig David. Juggy D has collaborated with Veronica Mehta and Rishi Rich in the Bollywood film '' Hum Tum''. He, Mehta, and Jay Sean also have guest appearances in the Hindi film ''Kyaa Kool Hai Hum''. Jazzy B
Jaswinder Singh Bains (born 1 April 1975), better known by his stage name Jazzy B is an Indo-Canadian Punjabi singer and songwriter. Early life and career Jazzy B was born in Nawanshahr, Punjab, India. When he was five years old, his family moved to Surrey, British Columbia, Canada. His first album ''Gugiyan Da Jora'' was released in 1993. The rhythm was played by Sukhshinder Shinda who suggested that he move to England if he wanted a prominent career in Punjabi music. He is a big fan of the late singer Kuldeep Manak, which is one of the reasons why Jazzy's album, Maharajas, released in 2011, with Kuldeep's son, Yudhvir, also a singer, is a tribute to Kuldeep Manak, with some of Kuldeep's original vocals retained, and many other songs sung by Jazzy and Yudhvir, are also a tribute to Kuldeep Manak. Josh (band)
Josh, sometimes stylized as JoSH or as Jösh, is a Canadian Bhangra music group formed in 2000 in Montreal, Quebec. Present members are "Rup" (Rup Magon) and "Q" (Qurram Hussain). Their songs showcase both modern and bhangra beats and music, but are strongly influenced by hip hop and pop music. Career Josh was founded in 1996 by Rup Magon with his brother, Rik Magon, and friend Shiraz 'Shazi' Hussain. They were joined by Qurram 'q' Hussein, Rup's in 1998, and two years later Rup and Q embarked on their own path for JoSH as a duo without Rik and Shiraz. Gurdas Maan is an Indian playback singer, songwriter and actor mainly associated with Punjabi and Hindi language music and films.
