List Of Aspect Ratios Of National Flags
The following table shows the aspect ratio (height to width ratio) of national flags used by countries and dependencies. Variant flags such as ensigns are listed in the "Alternative flags" column if they have different proportions from the national flag. Territories without an official flag distinct from that of their controlling country are excluded. The ratios most commonly used are 2:3, used by 85 of 195 sovereign states, followed by 1:2, used by 54 sovereign states. Most dependencies and former colonies use the same proportions as their mother countries: all British Overseas Territories use 1:2 ratios, while the flags of most former and current Dutch and French areas have 2:3 proportions. For comparison, the ratios are also given as a decimal number, which is the flag width divided by its height (e.g. a 2:3 flag has a decimal ratio of = 1.5). Nordic Cross Flag
A Nordic cross flag is a flag bearing the design of the Nordic or Scandinavian cross, a cross symbol in a rectangular field, with the centre of the cross shifted towards the hoist. All independent Nordic countries have adopted such flags in the modern period, and while the Nordic cross is named for its use in the national flags of the Nordic nations, the term is used universally by vexillologists, in reference not only to the flags of the Nordic countries but to other flags with similar designs. Flag Of Antigua And Barbuda
The national flag of Antigua and Barbuda was adopted on 27 February 1967 to mark the achievement of self-government. A competition to design the flag was held in which more than 600 local people entered. The winning design was put forth by nationally well-known artist and sculptor Sir Reginald Samuel. The design is a red field with an inverted isosceles triangle based on the top edge of the field pointed toward the bottom edge of the field bearing the horizontal tricolour of black, light blue (half width) and white with the rising sun centred on top of the black band. The rising sun symbolises the dawning of a new era. The colours have different meanings: the black is for the African ancestry of the people; the blue for hope; and the red for energy or life of the people. The Dolphin Flag of Anguilla was adopted on September 29, 1967, after the colony (then part of Saint Christopher-Nevis-Anguilla) unilaterally declared independence from the United Kingdom as the Republic of Anguilla. The Republic of Anguilla was a short-lived, unrecognised independent state on the island of Anguilla. It lasted from 11 July 1967 until 19 March 1969, when British control was re-established.
