This is a list of airports in Guyana, sorted by location. Guyana, officially the Co-operative Republic of Guyana and previously known as British Guiana, is a state on the northern coast of South America. Guyana is bordered to the east by Suriname, to the south and southwest by Brazil, to the west by Venezuela, and to the north by the Atlantic Ocean. It is the only state of the Commonwealth of Nations on mainland South America. Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo
Upper Takutu-Upper Esequibo (Region 9) is a Regions of Guyana, region of Guyana. Venezuela claims the territory as part of Bolívar (state) in Guayana Esequiba, Esequiban Guyana. It borders the region of Potaro-Siparuni to the north, the region of East Berbice-Corentyne to the east and Brazil to the south and west. It contains the town of Lethem, Guyana, Lethem, and the villages of Aishalton, Nappi, Guyana, Nappi and Surama. It is also the largest region of Guyana. The Rupununi savannah known for its large biodiversity is located between the Rupununi River and the Brazilian border. Cuyuni-Mazaruni
Cuyuni-Mazaruni (Region 7) is a region of Guyana. Venezuela claims the territory as part of Guayana Esequiba. It borders the regions of Barima-Waini, Essequibo Islands-West Demerara and Pomeroon-Supenaam to the north, the region of Upper Demerara-Berbice to the east, the region of Potaro-Siparuni and Brazil to the south. Its capital is Bartica, with villages including Issano, Kartabo, Kamarang, and Imbaimadai. It covers an area of 47,213 km². Before the 1980 administrative reform most of the area belonged to the Mazaruni-Potaro district. Bartica
Bartica, Essequibo, is a town on the left bank of the Essequibo River in Cuyuni-Mazaruni (Region 7), at the confluence of the Cuyuni and Mazaruni Rivers with the Essequibo River in Guyana. It is the regional capital of Cuyuni-Mazaruni. Considered the "Gateway to the Interior", the town has a population of 8,004 as of 2012, and is the launching point for people who work in the bush, mining gold and diamonds. History The town developed from an Anglican missionary settlement, established in 1837, and consecrated in 1843. The name ''Bartica'' comes from an indigenous word meaning "red earth", abundant in the area. Education Bartica has two secondary school Bartica Secondary and Three Miles Secondary and three primary schools, St. Anthony's Primary and St. John-the-Baptist and Two Miles Primary. Barima-Waini (Region 1) is a region of Guyana. Venezuela claims the territory as part of Guayana Esequiba. The region is located in the northwest of the country and has a population of 26,941. Baramita
Baramita, is a community in the Barima-Waini region of northern Guyana, standing about 20 miles west of Matthew's Ridge, at an altitude of 99 metres (328 feet). It is one of the largest Amerindian settlements in the country. It is inhabited by the Kalina people. and the village council is responsible for 22 satellite villages as well. The total population of the indigenous area is 3,500 people. Baramita could only be easily reached only by air, however a road has been built to link it with Matthew's Ridge. Awarewaunau
Awarewaunau (also: ''Awaruwaunawa'') is a village in the Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo Region of Guyana. Awarewaunau is inhabited by Wapishana Amerindians. Overview In 1909 missionaries arrived in the area. Awarewaunau was founded in the 1920s. The name is Wapishana and means Windy Creek Hill. The main religion of the villagers is Christian. The economy of Awarewaunau is based on subsistence farming and livestock. The village has a primary school and a health centre. Secondary education is offered in Aishalton. As of 2019, the village is connected to the internet. In 2018, water wells were constructed in the village as part of a joint exercise of the Brazilian Army and the Guyana Defence Force. Apoteri
Apoteri is a village in the Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo Region of Guyana, near the confluence of the Rupununi River with the Essequibo, at an altitude of 53 metres (177 feet). Apoteri started to develop as the centre of the balatá industry. The population is mainly Amerindian of the Macushi and Wapishana people. The village was founded in 1970 by Booker Brothers as a base for balatá production. Workers settled from villages in South Rupununi. In 1973 a school was established in the village. Wildlife is plentiful in the area, and the village promotes itself for eco-tourism. The Apoteri Fishing Camp is located at the mouth of the Rupununi River. The Iwokrama International Centre which aims to conserve the rainforest and provide sustainable development is nearby.
