Zoids Console Games Zoids: The Battle Begins (C64, Amstrad & Spectrum) In 1986, Martech released a home computer game, ''Zoids: The Battle Begins'', for the C64, ZX Spectrum and Amstrad CPC, based on the Original European Zoids Release. Zoids
, or simply , is a Japanese science fiction media franchise created by Tomy that feature giant robots (or "mecha") called "Zoids". A Zoid is essentially a large mechanical animal, with designs being based on animals; including dinosaurs, insects, arachnids and mythological creatures. The franchise started with a model-kit-based toy line and includes five main anime TV series ('' Chaotic Century'', ''New Century'', '' Fuzors'', ''Genesis'' and ''Wild'') as well as several video games and manga products. Martech Games was an early video game publisher based in Pevensey Bay between 1982 and 1989. It published a number of successful video games for the emerging home computer games marketplace, including BBC Micro, BBC Model B, ZX81, Sinclair ZX81, ZX Spectrum, Sinclair Spectrum, MSX, Amstrad CPC, Commodore 16, Commodore 64, Atari ST and Amiga, Commodore Amiga. The Commodore 64, also known as the C64, is an 8-bit home computer introduced in January 1982 by Commodore International (first shown at the Consumer Electronics Show, January 7–10, 1982, in Las Vegas). It has been listed in the Guinness World Records as the highest-selling single computer model of all time, with independent estimates placing the number sold between 12.5 and 17 million units. ZX Spectrum
The ZX Spectrum () is an 8-bit computing, 8-bit home computer that was developed by Sinclair Research. It was released in the United Kingdom on 23 April 1982, and became Britain's best-selling microcomputer. Referred to during development as the ''ZX81 Colour'' and ''ZX82'', it was launched as the ''ZX Spectrum'' to highlight the machine's colour display, which differed from the black and white display of its predecessor, the ZX81. The Spectrum was released as six different models, ranging from the entry level with 16 Kilobyte, KB RAM released in 1982 to the ZX Spectrum +3 with 128 KB RAM and built in floppy disk drive in 1987; altogether they sold over 5 million units worldwide (not counting List of ZX Spectrum clones, unofficial clones). The Amstrad CPC (short for ''Colour Personal Computer'') is a series of 8-bit home computers produced by Amstrad between 1984 and 1990. It was designed to compete in the mid-1980s home computer market dominated by the Commodore 64 and the Sinclair ZX Spectrum, where it successfully established itself primarily in the United Kingdom, France, Spain, and the German-speaking parts of Europe. The series spawned a total of six distinct models: The ''CPC464'', ''CPC664'', and ''CPC6128'' were highly successful competitors in the European home computer market. The Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) is an 8-bit third-generation home video game console produced by Nintendo. Natsume (company)
is the name of two video game publishers, Natsume-Atari and Natsume Inc., that were once the same company but are now completely separated. Natsume Co., Ltd. was founded in Japan on October 20, 1987. It established an American division called Natsume Inc. in 1988. In 1995, Natsume Inc. split from Natsume Co., Ltd. to become an independent company. The name "Natsume" was retained by both companies in their respective countries. In 2013, Natsume Co., Ltd. renamed itself Natsume-Atari following a merger with its subsidiary Atari that year. ''Zoids: Chaotic Century'', simply titled in Japan, is the first of five anime series based on the Zoids range of mecha model kits produced by TOMY. It is loosely adapted from the manga series ''Kiiju Shinseiki Zoido'', which was created by Michiro Ueyama and published in ''CoroCoro Comic''. The series was animated by Xebec, and aired from September 4, 1999, to December 23, 2000, on TBS and Network.
