Zambia
Zambia (), officially the Republic of Zambia, is a landlocked country at the crossroads of Central Africa, Central, Southern Africa, Southern and East Africa, although it is typically referred to as being in Southern Africa at its most central point. Its neighbours are the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the north, Tanzania to the northeast, Malawi to the east, Mozambique to the southeast, Zimbabwe and Botswana to the south, Namibia to the southwest, and Angola to the west. The capital city of Zambia is Lusaka, located in the south-central part of Zambia. Mainza Mathias Chona
Mainza Mathias Chona (21 January 1930 – 11 December 2001) was a Zambian politician and founder of UNIP who served as the third vice-president of Zambia from 1970 to 1973 and Prime Minister on two occasions: from 25 August 1973 to 27 May 1975 and from 20 July 1977 to 15 June 1978. He was Secretary General of the United National Independence Party (UNIP), the ruling party, from 1978 to 1981. This position was the ''de facto'' second in command in the hierarchy of Zambian politics during the period of the One Party Participatory State (1973–1991). He also held various government positions, including Justice Minister (1964–1968), Home Affairs Minister (1968–1969) and Minister of Legal Affairs and Attorney-General (1975–1978). He was Secretary-General of UNIP from 1978 to 1981 and Ambassador to the People's Republic of China from 1984 to 1989. Kebby Musokotwane
Kebby Sililo Kambu Musokotwane (5 May 1946 – 11 February 1996) was a politician from Zambia. He was a member of the United National Independence Party and one of the closest allies of former President Kenneth Kaunda. He was Minister of Finance from 1981 to 1982. Musokotwane served as the 5th Prime Minister of Zambia from 24 April 1985 until 15 March 1989. He then became secretary-general of the UNIP. When Kaunda stepped down as President of the party in 1992, following the party's election defeat in 1991, Musokotwane was elected President of the party, with Kaunda's support. Nalumino Mundia
Nalumino Mundia (27 November 1927 – 9 November 1988) was a Zambian politician. He served as the 4th Prime Minister of the country from 18 February 1981 to 24 April 1985. He went on to serve as Zambia's ambassador to the United States, Brazil, Peru and Venezuela. He was born in Kalabo Kalabo is an urban centre in Kalabo District, in the Western Province of Zambia. Daniel Lisulo
Daniel Muchiwa Lisulo (6 December 1930 – 21 August 2000) was the 3rd Prime Minister of Zambia from June 1978 until February 1981. Biography Born in Mongu, Zambia. He graduated from Loyola College, Chennai (then Madras), Tamil Nadu, India. Lisulo married Mary Mambo in 1967; she died in 1976, leaving Lisulo with two daughters. Lisulo served as the director of the Bank of Zambia from 1964 to 1977 before becoming Prime Minister. He was a member of Parliament from 1977 to 1983, after which, he went into private law practice. He later joined the National Party, and was the party's interim president at the time of his death. Mutale Nalumango
W.K. Mutale Nalumango (born 1 January 1955) is an educator and politician who is the 14th and current vice president of Zambia, the second woman to hold the position. She previously served as vice-president of the Secondary Schools’ Teachers Union of Zambia before resigning to begin her political career in 2001. She first became a member of the National Assembly in 2001 as a member of the Movement for Multiparty Democracy, representing the Kaputa Constituency. She later served as deputy minister of information and deputy speaker in parliament, the first woman to hold that position. Career Mutale, born in 1955, is a teacher by profession. Inonge Wina
Inonge Mutukwa Wina (born 2 April 1941) is a Zambian politician who served as the 13th vice-president of Zambia from 2015 to 2021. She was the first woman to hold the position, which made her the highest ranking woman in the history of the Zambian government. Education Wina attended primary school in Senanga, at the Barotse National School (now Kambule Secondary School) in Mongu. She eventually completed her high school education at Santa Monica High School in Los Angeles, California. She obtained a diploma in social work at Santa Monica College. She also enrolled for a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Zambia when it was first opened. George Kunda
George Kunda (26 February 1956 – 16 April 2012) was a Zambian lawyer and politician who was the 11th vice-president of Zambia from 2008 to 2011. He served under President Rupiah Banda until their party's loss to Michael Sata's party. Early life and career The son of a miner, Kunda studied at Serenje Boys Technical School and obtained a law degree from the University of Zambia and began practicing on April 28, 1982. He started his career at the Luanshya Municipal Council as a solicitor before creating his own law firm in 1990. Politics While Kunda did not compete in the 2001 parliamentary election, he gained one of the eight appointed seats in Parliament. Lupando Katoloshi Mwape
Lupando Mwape ( – 21 January 2019) was a Zambian politician. He served as the ninth vice-president of Zambia from 2004 to 2006 under President Levy Mwanawasa, who indicated that, had Mwape not been defeated in the 2006 parliamentary election, he would almost certainly have been re-appointed Vice-President. Mwape was succeeded by Rupiah Banda, who became president on Mwanawasa's death in 2008. He died in 2019 at the age of 69. And has a name sake Lupando Chipimo. Nevers Mumba
Nevers Mumba (born 1960 in Chitambo at Chitambo Mission, Zambia) is a Zambian politician and religious minister. He is the current leader of the Movement for Multi-Party Democracy. He served as the eighth vice-president of Zambia in 2003–04 under Levy Mwanawasa. Early life and career Mumba grew up with his parents and 11 brothers and sisters in Chinsali, in a religious home. His father Sunday Mumba was a teacher and pastor at the United Church of Zambia. He was baptised as a member of the UCZ by Rev. Paul Mushindo. Mumba had his primary education at Chinsali Basic School.
