This is a list of awards, winners and commendations awarded by the international World Architecture Festival (WAF). History In 2008, all winners were award winners. In 2009 and later, only 5 of the winners were declared award winners. The list is compiled from the official websites of World Architecture Festival and World Buildings Directory. Where there was a discrepancy between the information on the project page and the winner list with WAF, the information from the WAF list was used. All names are spelled as in the WAF list, links may therefore lead to articles with different spellings. In some cases the projects were renamed after receiving the award. World Architecture Festival
The World Architecture Festival (WAF) is an annual festival and awards ceremony, one of the most prestigious events dedicated to the architecture and development industry. The first four events were held in Barcelona, from 2008 to 2011, at which point the festival moved to Singapore for four years. Since 2016, host cities have included Berlin and Amsterdam. It is the only event where around 550 shortlisted architects present their projects live in crit rooms to a judging panel. One of these projects is awarded the World Building of the Year title. Each year the World Architecture Festival publishes a list of the winners of the awards on their official website. Foster + Partners is a British architectural, engineering, and integrated design practice founded in 1967 as Foster Associates by Norman Foster. It is the largest architectural firm in the UK with over 1,500 employees in 13 studios worldwide. History Established by Norman Foster as Foster Associates in 1967 shortly after leaving Team 4, the firm was renamed Sir Norman Foster and Partners Ltd in 1992 and shortened to Foster & Partners Ltd in 1999 to more accurately reflect the influence of the other lead architects. In 2007, the private equity company 3i took a stake in the practice. This was bought back by the practice in June 2014 to become wholly owned by the 140 partners. In October 2021, Foster + Partners was bought by a Canadian private investment firm Hennick & Company for an undisclosed sum, making it the single biggest shareholder of the practice. Sou Fujimoto
is a Japanese architect. Born in Hokkaido in 1971, he graduated from the University of Tokyo in 1994, and established his own office, Sou Fujimoto Architects, in 2000. Noted for delicate light structures and permeable enclosures, Fujimoto designed several houses, and in 2013, was selected to design the temporary Serpentine Gallery pavilion in London. In 2021, Fujimoto received the master degree from l’École Spéciale d’Architecture in Paris. Fujimoto published a book in 2008 called Sou Fujimoto: Primitive Future. It contains an overview of his projects up to that date, and it explains his concept of primitive future and how he uses it in his work. Career After establishing Sou Fujimoto Architects in 2000, Fujimoto went on to design buildings across Japan and Europe. The Korea Federation for Environmental Movements (KFEM) is a non-profit organization in South Korea that focuses on environmentalism. The group was founded in April 1993 as a federation of eight environmental groups, the largest being the Korean Anti-Pollution Movement Association. With approximately 80,000 individual members and around 50 local offices nationwide, KFEM is the largest environmental NGO in South Korea. Having roots in the Korean struggle for democracy, KFEM acts as a leader for the civil society. It is also the South Korean member of Friends of the Earth International. Bale ( it, Valle, italic=no, previously ''Valle d'Istria;'' ) is a settlement and municipality in Istria County, Croatia. The origins of the settlement lie in the Roman stronghold of Castrum Vallis, built by Caius Palcrus to protect the salt-pan road from Pula to Poreč.
