Vancouver Blazers
The Vancouver Blazers were a professional ice hockey team that played in the World Hockey Association from 1973 to 1975. The Blazers played at the Pacific Coliseum in Vancouver, sharing the facility with the Vancouver Canucks of the National Hockey League. The Blazers were owned by local businessman Jim Pattison. The franchise moved to Vancouver after a single season in Philadelphia. Unable to establish a strong fan base in Vancouver, the team was moved again in 1975 to become the Calgary Cowboys. History The Blazers were one of the founding members of the World Hockey Association. Originally the team, called the Miami Screaming Eagles, was to be based in Miami, Florida, but due to financial problems and a lack of a suitable arena, the franchise was moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and debuted as the Philadelphia Blazers. Butch Deadmarsh
Ernest Charles Deadmarsh (born April 5, 1950) is a Canadian former ice hockey left wing. Deadmarsh was drafted in the second round, 15th overall, of the 1970 NHL Amateur Draft by the Buffalo Sabres. He played in the National Hockey League for the Sabres, Atlanta Flames, and Kansas City Scouts. Deadmarsh scored the game-winning goal in Kansas City's first-ever NHL victory versus Washington in November, 1974. Jimmy Jones (ice Hockey)
James Harrison Jones (born January 2, 1953) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player. He played for the Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League between 1977 and 1979. He also played for the Vancouver Blazers of the World Hockey Association between 1973 and 1975. Playing career Jones was drafted by the Boston Bruins in the 1973 NHL Amateur Draft, as well as the Vancouver Blazers in the 1973 WHA Amateur Draft. He began his professional career with the Blazers the following season. After playing parts of two seasons with the Blazers he signed a contract with the American Hockey League's Rochester Americans. Rick Jodzio
Richard Joseph Jodzio (born June 3, 1954 in Edmonton, Alberta) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey left winger. He played in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Colorado Rockies and the Cleveland Barons; he also played in the World Hockey Association (WHA) with the Vancouver Blazers and the Calgary Cowboys. In his NHL career, Jodzio appeared in 70 games. He scored two goals and added eight assists while collecting 71 minutes in penalties. He played in 137 WHA games, scoring 15 goals and adding 16 assists with 357 minutes in penalties. On April 11, 1976, in one of the hockey's most infamous moments, Jodzio attacked Quebec Nordiques star Marc Tardif with his hockey stick during a playoff game in Quebec City. Jodzio's crosscheck into the boards knocked Tardif unconscious and he repeatedly hit him as he lay helpless on the ice. Edward Hatoum (Arabic: إدوارد حاطوم) (born December 7, 1947) is a Lebanese-born Canadian former professional ice hockey forward. He played in the National Hockey League between 1968 and 1971, and the World Hockey Association between 1972 an 1974. Dave Given (born May 14, 1954) is an American former professional ice hockey right winger. He played one game in the World Hockey Association for the Vancouver Blazers. He is an alumnus of Brown University. Sam Gellard (born March 15, 1950 in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago) is a retired Canadian ice hockey left winger. George Edward "Bud" Gardner (October 8, 1942 – November 6, 2006) was a Canadian ice hockey goaltender. Career Gardner played in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Detroit Red Wings and Vancouver Canucks, and in the World Hockey Association (WHA) for the Los Angeles Sharks and Vancouver Blazers, in a career that lasted from 1963 until 1974.
