The University of Louisville (UofL) is a public research university in Louisville, Kentucky. It is part of the Kentucky state university system. When founded in 1798, it was the first city-owned public university in the United States and one of the first universities chartered west of the Allegheny Mountains. Marsha Norman
Marsha Norman (born September 21, 1947) is an American playwright, screenwriter, and novelist. She received the 1983 Pulitzer Prize for Drama for her play '' 'night, Mother''. She wrote the book and lyrics for such Broadway musicals as ''The Secret Garden'', for which she won a Tony Award and the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Book of a Musical, and '' The Red Shoes'', as well as the libretto for the musical ''The Color Purple'' and the book for the musical ''The Bridges of Madison County''. Mary Spencer Nay
Mary Spencer Nay (1913–1993) was an American painter and printmaker. Born in Crestwood, Kentucky, Nay studied at the Art Center Association School in Louisville from 1934 to 1940. She attended the Cincinnati Art Academy in 1942 and earned both her bachelor's and Master of Arts degrees from the University of Louisville, in 1941 and 1960, respectively. She also took lessons at the Art Students League of New York in 1942, and in Provincetown, Massachusetts under Boris Margo from 1950 to 1951. She taught at the University of Louisville for twenty years before retiring as the Marcia S. Hite professor of painting in 1979. Nay exhibited widely in solo and group shows and was a member of the Provincetown Art Association, among other organizations. Beverle Graves Myers (born March 31, 1951) is an American author of mystery novels and short stories. Her major work is the Tito Amato mystery series set in 18th-century Venice, published by Poisoned Pen Press. She is also the co-author, with Joanne Dobson, of a stand-alone crime novel set in New York City on the eve of World War II. Myers' novels are traditional mysteries which feature a large cast of characters, a deep sense of time and place, and meticulously researched period details. Early life, Education, and Family Amanda Matthews was born in 1968 in Louisville, Kentucky to James (Jim) Matthews III and Brenda Matthews. She attended Bullitt East High School in Mt. Delfeayo Marsalis (; born July 28, 1965) is an American jazz trombonist, record producer and educator. Life and career Marsalis was born in New Orleans, the son of Dolores (née Ferdinand) and Ellis Louis Marsalis, Jr., a pianist and music professor. He is also the grandson of Ellis Marsalis, Sr., and the brother of Wynton Marsalis (trumpeter), Branford Marsalis (saxophonist), and Jason Marsalis (drummer). Stephen Ellis Garrett (November 11, 1974 – February 25, 2008), known professionally as Static Major (and previously as Static), was an American singer, songwriter, and record producer from Louisville, Kentucky. He was a member of the R&B trio Playa. He was also a songwriter for several artists, including Aaliyah, Ginuwine, Pretty Ricky, and Destiny's Child. Career Garrett started his producing career when he signed Swing Mob. He made a breakthrough working with R&B singer Ginuwine, writing and co-producing the song "Pony" which became a major hit and a milestone in both Garrett and Timbaland's careers. Garrett later became a member of the Def Jam group Playa, who were most known for their hit single "Cheers 2 U". Playa released an album of the same name in 1998. Michael Jackman (born December 26, 1956) is an American columnist, poet, essayist, fiction writer, and college professor. Life Michael Jackman was born and raised in Queens, New York and attended Belmont University. In 1992, he moved to Louisville, Kentucky to attend University of Louisville where he studied under poet Jeffrey Skinner and fiction writer Sena Naslund.
