Bill Barrett
William Emery Barrett (February 9, 1929 – September 20, 2016) was an American Republican politician from Nebraska who served five terms in the United States House of Representatives from 1991 to 2001 as the congressman for Nebraska's third congressional district. Biography Barrett was born in Lexington, Nebraska. He attended Hastings College and then earned his license to become a real estate broker. Before seeking elective office, he served in the United States Navy, was a longtime real estate agent and Republican activist. He had also previously served as an administrator at his college alma mater. Barrett served as a member of the Nebraska Republican State Executive Committee in the 1960s and chaired the Nebraska arm of President Gerald Ford's campaign in 1976. 1906 United States House Of Representatives Elections In Nebraska
The 1906 United States House of Representatives elections were held in the middle of President Theodore Roosevelt's second term. As in many midterm elections, the President's Republican Party lost seats to the opposition Democratic Party, but retained a large overall majority. Dissatisfaction with working conditions and resentment toward union busting among industrial laborers in the Mid-Atlantic and Midwest caused these groups to turn out to the polls in large numbers in support of the Democratic Party. However, gains in these regions were not enough to remove the Republican majority or the firm support that the party held among the middle class. John Frank Boyd
John Frank Boyd (August 8, 1853 – May 28, 1945) was a Nebraska Republican politician. Born in Connellsville, Pennsylvania, on August 8, 1853, he moved with his parents to Henry County, Illinois, in 1857. There he attended public schools and Abingdon College (which was later consolidated with Eureka College) where he studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1878. He first set up practice in Galva, Illinois, and then in 1883 Oakdale, Nebraska. He became prosecuting attorney of Antelope County, Nebraska, in 1888 and served until 1894. He moved to Neligh, Nebraska, in 1901. In 1900 he became judge of the Ninth Judicial District Court of Nebraska and served until 1907 when he was elected as a Republican to the Sixtieth Congress (March 4, 1907 – March 3, 1909) representing the third district. 1934 United States House Of Representatives Elections In Nebraska
The 1934 United States House of Representatives elections were held in the middle of President Franklin D. Roosevelt's first term. The Democratic Party continued its progress, gaining another 9 net seats from the opposition Republican Party, who also lost seats to the Progressive Party. The Republicans were reduced below one-fourth of the chamber for the first time since the creation of the party. The Wisconsin Progressive Party, a liberal group which allied with the Democrats, also became a force in Wisconsin politics. The 1934 elections can be seen as a referendum on New Deal policies. While conservatives and people among the middle class who did not bear the brunt of the depression saw New Deal programs as radical, lower-income voters overwhelmingly voted in this election cycle to continue the implementation of Roosevelt's agenda. Charles Gustav Binderup
Charles Gustav Binderup (March 5, 1873 – August 19, 1950) was a Nebraska Democratic politician. He served as United States Congressman from 1935 to 1939. Early life Binderup was born in Horsens, Denmark, son of George Werner Binderup and Laurentza Bjerring. When he was six months old, his parents immigrated to the United States, settling on a farm near Hastings, Nebraska. He attended Grand Island Business College and farmed near Hastings and Minden, Nebraska. He married Elena Westengaard on September 18, 1900, and they had three children. Career Binderup was in the mercantile and creamery business in Minden. Binderup was elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-fourth and Seventy-fifth Congresses and served from January 3, 1935 to January 3, 1939. He failed to be reelected in 1938. Douglas Kent Bereuter (born October 6, 1939) is an American retired politician from the state of Nebraska in the Midwestern United States. He served in the United States House of Representatives from 1979 until 2004. He also served as the president and CEO of The Asia Foundation from 2004 to 2011 and is a member of the ReFormers Caucus at Issue One. Bereuter is a member of the Republican Party.
