Dates of use will not necessarily correspond with the dates of construction or demolition of a building, as pre-existing structures may be adapted or court use, and former court buildings may later be put to other uses. Also, the official name of the building may be changed at some point after its use as a federal court building has been initiated. Des Moines () is the capital and the most populous city in the U.S. state of Iowa. It is also the county seat of Polk County. A small part of the city extends into Warren County. Davenport is a city in and the county seat of Scott County, Iowa, United States. Located along the Mississippi River on the eastern border of the state, it is the largest of the Quad Cities, a metropolitan area with a population of 384,324 and a combined statistical area population of 474,019, ranking as the 147th-largest MSA and 91st-largest CSA in the nation. Creston, Iowa
Creston is a city in and the county seat of Union County, Iowa. The population was 7,536 at the time of the 2020 Census. History Creston was originally settled in 1868 as a survey camp for the Burlington and Missouri Railroad. It was named for the fact that it was on the crest of the railroad line between the Missouri and Mississippi river basins. The area was developed largely for agriculture, with related industries accompanying it. Creston had a flour mill in the early decades of the 20th century. The town was officially established in 1869 and incorporated in 1871. Creston was chosen as the division point for the railroad, who built machine shops, a roundhouse, and a construction camp in the new town. Railroad employees, including African Americans, were recruited from Chicago and other major cities to work in Creston. United States Post Office And Court House (Creston, Iowa)
The former United States Post Office is a historic building located in Creston, Iowa, United States. Built in 1901, the building housed the post office on the main floor and a federal courtroom on the second floor. The combination Beaux-Arts and Georgian Revival structure was designed by James Knox Taylor who was the Supervising Architect of the United States Department of the Treasury. The Beaux-Arts style is found in the cornice, lucarnes, portico, and the door and window enframements. The Georgian Revival is found in the general mass and elevation of the building, window detail, use of brick, the hipped roof, and the division of the main facade into a projecting central pavilion and single-bay wings. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.
