The Ukrainian football champions ( uk, Чемпіон України з футболу) are currently identified at the annual football competition of the Ukrainian Premier League which is a top league football competition in the country since 2008. The history of the title could be traced to 1921 in varying forms of competition as full-pledged nationwide competitions within the Ukrainian SSR (before it officially joined the Soviet Union). The current champions Dynamo Kyiv has won a record 29 championship titles including 13 Soviet Union titles. Historical outlook The first national (or rather republican) Ukrainian football championship took place in 1921, just before the official establishment of the Soviet Union. SKCF Sevastopol (russian: Спортивный Клуб Черноморского Флота, uk, Спортивний Клуб Чорноморського Флоту) was a Soviet football team from Sevastopol, Russian SFSR, later Ukrainian SSR. The club represented sports club of the Black Sea Fleet and originally was called as the Fleet Officers Club, DOF (russian: Дом Офицеров Флота, ДОФ). SC Odesa is a former Ukrainian football team that appeared in 1992 following the reorganization of the Soviet SKA Odesa. The new city municipal team was located in Odesa, Ukraine and previously at one point was part of the Soviet Army sport system. Brief history The club was founded as a sport society of various disciplines in 1944. It began its legacy in the Soviet sport competitions under the name of ODO (Okruzhnoy Dom Offitserov), which meant Regional Officers' Club in Russian. There were many similar Army clubs in various cities across the whole USSR, with the central one being in Moscow. Since 1957 all of them changed names to SKVO (Sport Club of Military District), the club became SKVO Odesa. FC Spartak Ivano-Frankivsk was a Ukrainian football team based in Ivano-Frankivsk, Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast, Ukraine, the unofficial capital of the Prykarpattia region. History The club was founded in 1940 after the Soviet occupation of the Eastern Poland during the World War II. All previous local sports clubs were liquidated and replaced with "proletarian". In 1956 the club gained promotion to the Soviet Class B (second tier) by winning a play-off match-up against SKCF Sevastopol in 1955. FC CSKA Kyiv ( uk, "ЦСКА Київ") is a Ukrainian amateur football club, until 2001 of the Central Sports Club of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which is government sponsored by the Ministry of Defense. Football Club Dnipro ( uk, Футбо́льний Клуб «Дніпро́», ) was a Ukrainian football club based in Dnipro. The club was owned by the Privat Group that also owns BC Dnipro and Budivelnyk Kyiv. In 2018 FC Dnipro was forced into bankruptcy by FIFA due to multiple legal claims for failing to pay its promised monetary compensation to players and managers. During the Soviet era, the club was a member of the Soviet Volunteer Sports Society "Metallurg" (therefore it carried names Metallurg/Metalurh and Stal) and until 1961 was under sponsorship of the Petrovsky Dnipropetrovsk Metallurgical Plant. FC Lokomotyv Kharkiv ( uk, Локомотив Харків) was a football club from Kharkiv. History The club entered official Soviet competitions in 1936 Soviet Cup as Lokomotiv Kharkov. It was formed out of the team Krasnyi Zheleznodorozhnik (Red Rail Worker) that existed in Kharkiv since 1923. In league competitions the team appeared in 1938 playing in the first group of the Ukrainian SSR championship and replacing "Stalinets" team that represented electric-mechanical factory. After the World War II, in 1945 the team was admitted to the Soviet second tier competitions known as "Vtoraya Gruppa" (Second Group) along with two other teams from the Ukrainian SSR, Kharchovyk Odesa (today Chornomorets) and Shakhtar Stalino. Football Club Shakhtar Donetsk ( uk, Футбольний клуб «Шахтар» Донецьк , short nickname "miners") is a Ukrainian professional football club from the city of Donetsk. In 2014, due to the War in Donbass, the club was forced to move to Lviv, and had played matches in Lviv (2014–2016) and in Kharkiv (2017–2020) whilst having its office headquarters and training facilities in Kyiv. FC Lokomotyv Kyiv
FC Lokomotiv Kyiv is a football club from Kyiv, owned by the South Western Railway. It currently participates in various Kyiv city football competitions. It also fields several of its junior teams in the Ukrainian youth league. History Founded in 1919, as ZhelDor (''abbr. -Rail road''), soon after joining the Soviet Lokomotiv sports society it changed its name twice to Lokomotiv in 1936 and Lokomotiv Yuga in 1940. The team played its home games at its own stadium. The best record of competition was the 17th place in the 1938 Soviet Top League. Also, the club was multiple winner of the Kyiv championships.
