The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) is the governing body for association football in Europe. It organises four club competitions: the UEFA Champions League (formerly European Cup), the UEFA Europa League (formerly UEFA Cup), the UEFA Europa Conference League, and the UEFA Super Cup. UEFA was also responsible for the Cup Winners' Cup and the Intertoto Cup until their discontinuation in 1999 and 2008, respectively. Together with the Confederación Sudamericana de Fútbol (CONMEBOL), it also organised the Intercontinental Cup, which was last held in 2004, before its replacement by FIFA's Club World Cup. Spanish side Real Madrid have won a record total of 24 titles in UEFA competitions, seven more than Milan (Italy). 1972 European Super Cup
The 1972 European Super Cup was a football match played over two legs between the winner of the 1971–72 European Cup and the winner of the 1971–72 European Cup Winners' Cup. The match was proposed by Anton Witkamp of ''De Telegraaf'' to decide who was the best club in Europe. The Inter-Cities Fairs Cup, sometimes referred to as the European Fairs Cup, Fairs Cities' Cup, or simply as the Fairs Cup, was a European Association football, football competition played between 1955 and 1971. The 1989–90 European Cup was the 35th edition of Europe's premier club football tournament, the European Cup. The final was played at the Praterstadion in Vienna on 23 May 1990. The final was contested by Italian defending champions Milan and Portuguese two-time former winners Benfica. Milan successfully defended their title with a 1–0 victory, securing their fourth European Cup trophy.
