Trinidad and Tobago (, ), officially the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, is the southernmost island country in the Caribbean. Consisting of the main islands Trinidad and Tobago, and numerous much smaller islands, it is situated south of Grenada and off the coast of northeastern Venezuela. It shares maritime boundaries with Barbados to the northeast, Grenada to the northwest and Venezuela to the south and west. Trinidad and Tobago is generally considered to be part of the West Indies. Roberta Silva (born 1971, in Trinidad and Tobago) is an artist based in Milan and Lake Garda. Silva attended the Brera Academy of Fine Art where she graduated in 1995. She works mainly with sculpture, installation art, installation and site-specific interventions. Wendy Nanan
Wendy Nanan (born 1955) is an artist from Trinidad and Tobago. Much of her work focuses on the multi-racial aspects of Trinidadian society, often featuring images of religious figures and post-colonial symbolism. Nanan has exhibited in Paris, France; London, England; Washington DC and Kentucky, USA; Prince Edward Island and British Columbia, Canada; Johannessburg, South Africa; and the Dominican Republic. Biography Born in Port of Spain, Trinidad, she took classes at Manchester Polytechnic, before obtaining her BFA in Painting from Wolverhampton Polytechnic in 1979. She has been exhibiting regularly worldwide since 1985, and is currently based in the town of her birth. She attended cricket matches with her parents in childhood, an experience reflected in some of her work. She works in various media, including painting, printmaking, and sculpture. Althea McNish
Althea McNish (1924–2020) was an artist from Trinidad who became the first Black British textile designer to earn an international reputation. Born in Trinidad, McNish moved to Britain in the 1950s. She was associated with the Caribbean Artists Movement (CAM) in the 1960s, participating in CAM's exhibitions and seminars and helping to promote Caribbean arts to a British public. Her work is represented in the collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Whitworth Museum, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Museum of Domestic Design and Architecture and the Cooper-Hewitt (Smithsonian Design Museum), among other places. McNish was a Fellow of the Chartered Society of Designers. Amy Leong Pang
Amy Leong Pang (1908–1989) was a painter from Trinidad and Tobago. Of Chinese descent, Leong Pang was born in Princes Town and sent to school in China; she is known to have painted while there. After her return to Trinidad and Tobago she moved to Port of Spain. In 1929 she was among the founders of the Society of Trinidad Independents; other members included C. L. R. James, Alfred Mendes, Albert Gomes, Ivy Achoy, and Hugh Stollmeyer, with whom she would go on to develop a close working relationship. The group met in private homes to paint and discuss ideas, but was condemned for being bohemian and disbanded in 1938. Leong Pang would go on to help found the Trinidad Art Society in 1943. Leong Pang was intensely private, but continued to be supportive of other local artists until her death; Boscoe Holder and Carlisle Chang are among those whose works she influenced, as well as Althea McNish.
