John Saunders (journalist)
John Peterson Saunders (February 2, 1955 – August 10, 2016) was a Canadian-American sports journalist. He worked for ESPN and ABC from 1986 until his death in 2016. Early life and career Saunders attended high school in Châteauguay. Saunders was an all-star defenseman in the Montreal junior leagues, received a scholarship and played hockey at Western Michigan University from 1974 to 1976 with his brother, Bernie. He transferred to Ryerson University in Toronto and played for the Rams from 1976 to 1978. After the 1977–78 season, Saunders was named to the Ontario University Athletic Association All-Star team. He was the news director for CKNS Radio (Espanola, Ontario, 1978), and sports anchor at CKNY-TV (North Bay, Ontario, 1978–1979) and at ATV News (New Brunswick, 1979–1980). NBA TV Canada is a Canadian English language specialty channel owned by Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment (MLSE). CTV Sports
CTV Sports was the division of the CTV Television Network responsible for sports broadcasting. The division existed in its own right from 1961 to 2001; between 1998 and 2001, CTV Sports also operated a cable sports network, CTV Sportsnet, now owned by Rogers Media and known simply as Sportsnet. Since CTV's purchase of the more established sports network TSN in 2001 (which in turn caused the sale of Sportsnet to Rogers), the network has assumed responsibility for CTV's remaining sports output. Eric Smith (sportscaster)
Eric Smith (born 2 April 1975) is a Canadian sportscaster on Fan 590 in Toronto and Sportsnet TV. Smith has been working at Sportsnet and Sportsnet 590 the FAN, covering the Raptors in some capacity, for more than 20 years. He has also done work for Global TV sports, as their Raptors/NBA analyst, and he has appeared on CNN, NBA TV, CBC Newsworld and more. He is the radio voice for Toronto Raptors radio broadcasts as well as a full-time sports talk radio host. Smith also serves as the host of the pre-game, half-time, and post-game shows on the Raptors radio broadcasts. When he is not working on the radio, Smith jumps over to TV, working the sidelines and hosting the pre-game and halftime shows for the Raptors broadcasts on Sportsnet. Paul Jones (born 1958) is a Canadian sportscaster. He previously served as the colour analyst on Raptors radio broadcasts, a role he had during the Raptors' inaugural season in 1995, with play-by-play man Mike Inglis on CFRB 1010. Currently, he serves as the Raptors' radio play-by-play announcer on Fan 590, alongside colour analyst Eric Smith. In addition to those duties, Jones appears on a weekly basketball show hosted by Smith on the Fan 590, ''Hoops'', which is simulcast on Raptors NBA TV. Jones and Smith also appear together on another show on Raptors NBA TV, ''Double Dribble''. Jones has also served as studio analyst and sideline reporter for the Raptors on TSN, CTV, and Rogers Sportsnet. CJCL (590 AM, ''Sportsnet 590 The Fan'') is a Canadian sports radio station in Toronto, Ontario. Owned and operated by Rogers Sports & Media since 2002, CJCL's studios are located at the Rogers Building at Bloor and Jarvis in downtown Toronto, while its transmitters are located near Grimsby atop the Niagara Escarpment. Earl Cureton
Earl Cureton (born September 3, 1957) is an American retired professional basketball player. His nickname was "The Twirl". Amateur career Cureton played high school basketball at Finney High School in Detroit, and signed to play college basketball with Robert Morris, playing there for one season (1976–77), averaging a double-double of 17.2 ppg and 10.5 rpg, before electing to return home to play for the University of Detroit. Cureton sat out a year with the transfer but paired with future NBA player Terry Duerod to lead the Titans to the 1979 NCAA Division I Basketball Tournament, losing to Lamar 95-87 in the first round. Detroit finished ranked #20 on the season. Cureton had a stellar senior season in 1979-80, averaging 19.9 ppg and 9.1 rpg, and was inducted into the Detroit Mercy Titans Hall of Fame in 2007. CFRB (1010 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is owned by Bell Media and carries a News/Talk radio format. Its studios and offices are in the Entertainment District at 250 Richmond Street West. CFRB is a clear channel station powered at 50,000 watts, the maximum permitted in Canada. Mike Inglis
Mike Inglis is a Canadian sportscaster. He is the former radio play-by-play voice of the NBA's Miami Heat. Raised in Toronto, Ontario, Inglis is a graduate of Humber College. He began broadcasting in the early 1980s at CKAR in Oshawa, Ontario, providing play-by-play for the NASL's Toronto Blizzard. In 1987, he was briefly the radio play-by-play voice of the Indiana Pacers. He stayed in Indiana for a few more years, and served as the radio color commentator of the NFL's Indianapolis Colts from 1990 to 1991, alongside Bob Lamey. In 1995, he became the first radio play-by-play man in Toronto Raptors history, broadcasting on CFRB 1010 alongside Paul Jones.
