''The Simpsons'' is an American animated sitcom created by Matt Groening for the Fox Broadcasting Company. It is a satirical depiction of a dysfunctional family, dysfunctional middle-class American lifestyle starring the eponymous Simpson family, family: Homer Simpson, Homer, Marge Simpson, Marge, Bart Simpson, Bart, Lisa Simpson, Lisa, and Maggie Simpson, Maggie. Set in the town of Springfield (The Simpsons), Springfield, the show lampoons both Culture of the United States, American culture and the human condition. Later released on the 2001 DVD ''The Simpsons – The Complete First Season'' by 20th Century Fox. The family was conceived by Groening shortly before a pitch for a series of The Simpsons shorts, animated shorts with producer James L. Brooks.
