Since its foundation in 1996, the American soccer club Sporting Kansas City has played in Major League Soccer. The team has won the MLS Cup twice, and the U.S. Open Cup four times. Association Football
Association football, more commonly known as football or soccer, is a team sport played between two teams of 11 players who primarily use their feet to propel the ball around a rectangular field called a pitch. The objective of the game is to score more goals than the opposition by moving the ball beyond the goal line into a rectangular framed goal defended by the opposing side. Traditionally, the game has been played over two 45 minute halves, for a total match time of 90 minutes. With an estimated 250 million players active in over 200 countries, it is considered the world's most popular sport. Predrag Radosavljević ( sr-Cyrl, Предраг Радосављевић; born June 24, 1963), better known by the nickname Preki (), is a Serbian-American former soccer player and coach. He is currently an assistant coach with Seattle Sounders FC in Major League Soccer (MLS). He previously coached Sacramento Republic FC and Saint Louis FC in the United Soccer League and coached in MLS with Toronto FC and Chivas USA. During his playing career he played for English clubs Everton and Portsmouth, and was an 'MLS original' upon the formation of MLS in 1996, playing for the Kansas City Wizards (now known as Sporting Kansas City) and Miami Fusion. He is the only two-time winner of the MLS MVP award, now known as the Landon Donovan MVP Award, and represented the United States at the 1998 FIFA World Cup. 2001 MLS Cup Playoffs
The 2001 Major League Soccer season was shortened due to the September 11 attacks, with the final weeks' regular season matches canceled. The playoffs, however, were played, and the San Jose Earthquakes won their first MLS Cup. Miklos Molnar
Miklos Jon Molnar ( hu, Molnár Miklós János; born 10 April 1970), nicknamed "Danish Dynamite", is a Danish former professional footballer of Hungarian origin who played as a striker for a number of Danish and foreign clubs. He was the top goalscorer of the 1989 and 1997 Danish championships, and won the 2000 MLS Cup with American team Kansas City Wizards. He scored two goals in 18 caps for the Denmark national football team, and represented his country at the 1998 World Cup and 2000 European Championship tournaments. He was also a member of the Denmark team competing at the 1992 Summer Olympics. When he stopped his professional football career in 2000, he continued with triathlon. In 2005, he ran under three hours (2:59:20) in Copenhagen Marathon and under 10 hours (9:50) in an Ironman in Austria. MLS Cup 2000
MLS Cup 2000 was the fifth edition of the MLS Cup, the championship match of Major League Soccer (MLS), which took place on October 15, 2000, at Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium in Washington, D.C. It was contested by the Kansas City Wizards and Chicago Fire to decide the champion of the 2000 MLS season. Kansas City became the first Western Conference team to win the MLS Cup, with the lone goal of the match scored in the 11th minute by Miklos Molnar. It was also the first MLS Cup to not feature a team from the Eastern Conference club, due to the three-division system used from 2000 to 2001. The match was watched by 39,159 spectators and broadcast nationally on ABC with commentary by Jack Edwards and Ty Keough. Venue Robert F. 2000 Kansas City Wizards Season
In 2000 the Kansas City Wizards earned their first ever honor winning the MLS Supporters' Shield by finishing atop the regular season point total (57). The Wizards continued good play took them through the playoffs and into MLS Cup 2000 versus the Chicago Fire where they finished their season in a 1-0 victory earning the club the MLS Double. 2000 was the first season that MLS games could finish in a draw, but to do so tied matches had an additional ten-minute overtime. The 1999 Kansas City Wizards season was played at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri. MLS did not allow matches to end in ties in 1999 and thus Shootouts were used to decide draws, the stats that follow do not include shootout goals scored and the teams actually point total in the regular season was 20 even though it is shown below as 24. Shootout win= 2 points, Shootout loss= 0 points. The Wizards first ever manager Ron Newman was let go and replaced with Bob Gansler. Mo Johnston
Maurice John Giblin Johnston (born 13 April 1963) is a Scottish football player and coach. Johnston, who played as a forward, started his senior football career with Partick Thistle in 1981. He moved to Watford in 1983, where he scored 23 league goals and helped them reach the 1984 FA Cup Final. In 1984 he joined Celtic and scored 72 goals in 128 matches, won the Scottish Cup in 1985 and the Scottish league championship in 1986. Johnston signed for Nantes in 1987. He returned to Glasgow with Rangers in 1989, becoming the second player to cross the Old Firm divide since World War II ( Alfie Conn was first) and the first open Catholic to play for Rangers since World War I.
