Architect
An architect is a person who plans, designs and oversees the construction of buildings. To practice architecture means to provide services in connection with the design of buildings and the space within the site surrounding the buildings that have human occupancy or use as their principal purpose. Etymologically, the term architect derives from the Latin ''architectus'', which derives from the Greek (''arkhi-'', chief + ''tekton'', builder), i.e., chief builder. The professional requirements for architects vary from place to place. An architect's decisions affect public safety, and thus the architect must undergo specialized training consisting of advanced education and a ''practicum'' (or internship) for practical experience to earn a Occupational licensing, license to practice architecture. Nerea Calvillo
Nerea Calvillo (Madrid, 7 March 1973) is a Spanish architect who investigates the intersection between architecture, science and technology, as well as feminist studies, new materials and urban political ecology. Specialized in the research of the visual representation of air in the atmosphere, she constructs graphic diagrams for the visualization of invisible microscopic agents in the air and thus influences the improvement of air quality. This project is called ''"In the Air"''. Education She studied architecture at the Superior Technical School of Architecture of Madrid (ETSAM), where she received her PhD in 2014 with outstanding cum laude with the thesis "''Sensing Aeropolis''". Rita Fernández Queimadelos
Rita Eugenia Fernández Benedicta Queimadelos (1911 - 26 September 2008) was a Spanish architect. She is considered the second, sometimes the third female architect in Spain. The first female architect to officially sign her own architectural projects in the state. She is also the first female architect in Galicia. Early life and education Rita Fernández Queimadelos was born in 1911 in A Torre, a village in the municipality of A Cañiza, in the province of Pontevedra, Galicia, Spain. She was a daughter of Domingo Fernández y Fernández and Modesta Queimadelos Vázquez, merchants and owners of a haberdashery in the center of Orense. Fernández Queimadelos spent her childhood mainly in Orense and in A Torre during the summer holidays. In 1928, she moved to Santiago de Compostela to live with her grandmother. Lluís Domènech I Montaner
Lluís Domènech i Montaner (; 21 December 1850 – 27 December 1923) was a Spanish architect who was highly influential on '' Modernisme català'', the Catalan Art Nouveau/Jugendstil movement. He was also a Catalan politician. Born in Barcelona, he initially studied physics and natural sciences, but soon switched to architecture. He was registered as an architect in Barcelona in 1873. He also held a 45-year tenure as a professor and director at the Escola d'Arquitectura, Barcelona's school of architecture, and wrote extensively on architecture in essays, technical books and articles in newspapers and journals. His most famous buildings, the Hospital de Sant Pau and Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona, have been collectively designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Josep Domènech i Estapà (; Tarragona, 1858 – Cabrera de Mar, 1917) was a Catalan architect. He graduated in 1881, and became professor of geodesy (1888) and descriptive geometry (1895) at the University of Barcelona, and member of the Acadèmia de Ciències i Arts (1883), of which he subsequently became president(1914). Francisco De Cubas
Francisco de Cubas y González-Montes (13 April 1826 – 2 January 1899) was a Spanish architect and politician. He was also known as the Marquis of Cubas (Marqués de Cubas) after his noble title, the marquisate of Cubas. He was also from 1894 the Marquis of Fontalba. He studied at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura in Madrid and obtained scholarships that allowed him to complete his studies in Italy and Greece. Upon his return to Spain in 1858, he won a medal at the National Exposition of 1858. Alonso de Covarrubias ( Torrijos, Toledo 1488–1570) was a Spanish architect and sculptor of the Renaissance, active mainly in Toledo. Simón De Colonia
Simón de Colonia (died 1511) was a Spanish architect and sculptor, son of architect Juan de Colonia and father of architect and sculptor Francisco de Colonia. Francisco de Colonia was a Gothic style sculptor and architect of the Plateresque. After his father's death in 1481 Simón succeeded him as master builder of Burgos cathedral. Josep Antoni Coderch
Josep Antoni Coderch i de Sentmenat (Barcelona, 26 November 1913 in - Barcelona, 6 November 1984), Spanish architect recognized as one of the most important post-World War II architects. Early life and career In 1932 Coderch started studying architecture at the Barcelona School of Architecture, which he graduated in 1940. He started his office with Manual Valls in 1942. After graduating he worked in Madrid with Pedro Muguruza and Secundino Zuazo. Years later, he is appointed city architect of Sitges, where he designs the Civil Guard garrison. José Benito De Churriguera
José Benito de Churriguera (21 March 1665, in Madrid – 2 March 1725, in Madrid) was a Spanish architect, sculptor and urbanist of the late-Baroque or Rococo style. He was born in Madrid to a Catalan cabinetmaker, gilder and altarpiece joiner, Josep Simó Xoriguera i Elies and to doña Maria de Ocaña, and studied under his father along with two of his brothers. His excessively decorated style, which can be described as an obsessively over-wrought '' horror vacui'' on any surface or facade, led to the adjective churrigueresque. Antoni Bonet Castellana
Antoni Bonet i Castellana (Barcelona, 1913–1989) was a Spanish architect from Catalonia, designer and urban planner. He began his career with Josep Lluís Sert and Josep Torres Clavé. He was a member of GATCPAC. In 1936 he joins the atelier of Le Corbusier in Paris. Afterwards he works in Argentina and Uruguay. He is best remembered as one of the designers of the "BKF" Butterfly chair, as part of the Austral Group, in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1938, along with partners Juan Kurchan and Jorge Ferrari Hardoy. From 1971 through 1975, his studio in Barcelona Spain, was run by the Head of Studio, Miguel Cervantes Martinez Brocca, a Uruguayan Architect who then became head of the Central office of Bellas Artes of Spain.
