List Of Singaporean Patriotic Songs
This article contains a list of Singaporean patriotic songs. A patriotic song is one which inspires feelings of pride in one's country. The list has both traditional folk songs that have special meaning to Singaporeans, as well as modern songs composed specifically for national celebrations, particularly the National Day Parade held on 9 August each year, Singapore's National Day. Generally speaking, there may be said to be two types of Singaporean patriotic songs. The first type are traditional folk songs that have, over time, come to have special meaning to Singaporeans. Many of these are in vernacular languages – Malay, Mandarin and Tamil, for instance. Folk Music
Folk music is a music genre that includes traditional folk music and the contemporary genre that evolved from the former during the 20th-century folk revival. Some types of folk music may be called world music. Tanya Chua
Tanya Chua (; born 28 January 1975) is a Singaporean singer-songwriter. She launched her singing career by releasing her debut studio album ''Bored'' in 1997. Kaira Gong
Kaira Gong (, born 25 July 1981) is a Singaporean singer. She sang the theme song for Singapore's National Day Parade in 2006, titled "My Island Home". She was previously signed with HIM International Music, and is best known as the protégé of Taiwanese musician David Tao, as well as the label-mate of pop group S.H.E. On 25 December 2007, HIM International terminated its contract with Gong's management company. Life and career Gong was born and grew up in Singapore. She is the number two and the only female child in the family. Her father is an engineer while her mother is a housewife. My Island Home (2006 Song)
My Island Home (）is a song sung by Singaporean (Taiwan based) singer, Kaira Gong. The song is the official theme music to the 2006 national day parade. The song is one of the few NDP theme songs to not mention Singapore's name in it. Music video The promotional short film which is directed by Gloria Chee, shows Kaira riding in a largely obscured pickup truck from dawn till dusk as she rides around Singapore. Various scenes of Singaporean life plays throughout the video. The latter ends up at National Stadium where the song piece concludes. The film ends with Kaira smiling at the camera and later a bokeh of lights follows as the screen fades to black. Loh Rui En (born 29 January 1981), better known by her stage name Rui En (瑞恩), is a Singaporean actress and was named as one of the Seven Princesses of Mediacorp in 2006. Where I Belong is an EP released in 2001 by Singaporean singer and songwriter, Tanya Chua. It was officially commissioned as the theme song to the 2001 National Day celebrations in Singapore. The song is easily recognized by many for its rock tune and smooth melody. In Singapore, the song became an immediate hit after its release, reaching number one status by mid-July 2001. It is the first and only EP to be released in NDP history. Twelve years later at NDP 2013, this song was sung by the combined schools choir, acknowledging the arrival of former prime ministers, Mr Lee Kuan Yew and ESM Goh Chok Tong. She was the second runner-up and also Miss Photogenic and Miss Amity for Singapore's Miss Chinatown Pageant 1992. Career Hee's first album ''Knowingly'' () was released in August 1994. Evelyn Tan () is a Singaporean actress and former singer. She was prominently a full-time Mediacorp artiste from 1997 to 2005. Zubir Said (22 July 1907 – 16 November 1987) was a Singaporean composer most notable for composing the national anthem of his country, "Majulah Singapura" – "Onward Singapore".
