Rajya Sabha
The Rajya Sabha, constitutionally the Council of States, is the upper house of the bicameral Parliament of India. , it has a maximum membership of 245, of which 233 are elected by the legislatures of the states and union territories using single transferable votes through open ballots, while the president can appoint 12 members for their contributions to art, literature, science, and social services. The potential seating capacity of the Rajya Sabha is 245 (233 elected, 12 appointed), according to article 80 of the Indian Constitution. Members sit for staggered terms lasting six years, with about a third of the 238 designates up for election every two years, in even-numbered years. The Rajya Sabha meets in continuous sessions, and unlike the Lok Sabha, being the lower house of the Parliament, the Rajya Sabha is not subjected to dissolution. Vinay Dinu Tendulkar
Vinay Dinu Tendulkar is an Indian politician, serving as the Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha from Goa since 2017. He is a senior leader of Bharatiya Janata Party and has been the President of Bharatiya Janata Party, Goa from 2012 to 2020, for two consecutive terms. Currently, he is a member of the Rubber Board committee and the Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. He is a member of the Transport, Tourism and Culture committee, prior to which he made substantial contribution towards forest development and protection in 2002 when he was the Forest Minister of Goa, as a part of Manohar Parrikar's Cabinet, the then Chief Minister of Goa. Shantaram Laxman Naik (12 April 1946 – 9 June 2018) was an Indian politician from Indian National Congress party and a former Member of the Parliament of India representing Goa in the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Indian Parliament. He was the President of the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee and the whip of the Indian National Congress in the Rajya Sabha. Early life and personal background Shantaram Naik was born on 12 April 1946 to Laxman and Sita Naik in Cuncolim village in then Portuguese India. He was initiated into politics as a student during the 1967 Assembly elections when he started putting up election campaign posters of the Indian National Congress in public places. Eduardo Faleiro (born 30 August 1940) is an Indian politician, and former federal minister from Goa. In September 2006, he was the commissioner for non-resident Indian affairs for the Congress Government of Goa. Biography Faleiro was born on 30 August 1940. He was a Union Cabinet minister at the Indian federal government in New Delhi from 1986 to 1996. Earlier, he was a member of the legislative assembly of Goa for a short while, before shifting to national-level politics.
