Isabel Cuchí Coll
Isabel Cuchí Coll (March 28, 1904 – December 22, 1993) was a journalist, writer and the Director of the (Society of Puerto Rican Authors). She came from a family of Puerto Rican historians and politicians. Nemir Matos-Cintrón
Nemir Matos-Cintrón (born 1949) is a Puerto Rican author who resides in Florida. She has published several books of poetry and parts of a novel. She has openly thematized her lesbianism in much of her work. Life Matos-Cintrón was born on November 19, 1949, in Santurce, Puerto Rico. She received her B.A. in Humanities from the University of Puerto Rico and later her Master's of Science from the S. I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University. During the 1980s, Matos-Cintrón taught television production courses at the Universidad del Sagrado Corazón in Puerto Rico. She also worked as television producer for the all news Channel 24. Puerto Rican Literature
Puerto Rican literature is the body of literature produced by writers of Puerto Rican descent. It evolved from the art of Oral literature, oral storytelling. Written works by the indigenous inhabitants of Puerto Rico were originally prohibited and repressed by the Spanish colonial government. It was not until the late 19th century, with the arrival of the first printing press and the founding of the Royal Academy of Belles Letters, that Puerto Rican literature began to flourish. The first writers to express their political views in regard to Spanish colonial rule of the island were journalists. After the United States invaded Puerto Rico during the Spanish–American War and the island was ceded to the United States as a condition of the Treaty of Paris of 1898, writers and poets began to express their opposition of the new colonial rule by writing about patriotic themes. Aurora Levins Morales (born February 24, 1954) is a Puerto Rican Jewish writer and poet. She is significant within Latina feminism and Third World feminism as well as other social justice movements. Georgina Lázaro
Georgina Lázaro-Leon is a Puerto Rican poet who writes children's books. Her poems have been recorded by many artists, among them Tony Croatto. Early years Lázaro was one of eight siblings born in San Juan, Puerto Rico and raised in the Miramar neighborhood of the city. She was enrolled at the age of three in the "Colegio de la Inmaculada" school, the school in which she received both her primary and secondary education. Zoé Jiménez Corretjer
Zoé Jiménez Corretjer is an author from Puerto Rico. She is a professor in the Department of Humanities, University of Puerto Rico at Humacao. Life Jiménez Corretjer born in San Juan, Puerto Rico has a Doctorate Degree from Temple University in Philadelphia and has taken several professional seminars at the Universidad Complutense in Madrid, Spain, and at the Ateneo de Madrid. Since 1996, she has taught literature and humanities at the University of Puerto Rico. She is the director of The Journal of Humanistic Studies and Literature from her department. Santería
Santería (), also known as Regla de Ocha, Regla Lucumí, or Lucumí, is an African diaspora religions, African diasporic religion that developed in Cuba during the late 19th century. It arose through a process of syncretism between the traditional Yoruba religion of West Africa, the Catholic Church, Roman Catholic form of Christianity, and Spiritism. There is no central authority in control of Santería and much diversity exists among practitioners, who are known as ''creyentes'' ("believers"). Santería is polytheism, polytheistic and revolves around deities called ''Orisha, oricha''. Migene González-Wippler is a Puerto Rican new-age author and a leading expert on the Afro-Caribbean religion of Santería. Magali García Ramis
Magali García Ramis (born 1946, Santurce, Puerto Rico) is a Puerto Rican writer. Biography Magali García Ramis was born in 1946 in Santurce, San Juan, Puerto Rico and spent her childhood there with her mother, father and brothers, near her mother's family, with close relations with uncles, cousins and her maternal grandmother. Her father was a civilian worker in Fort Buchanan; her mother worked in her sister's laboratory for a while and later stayed home with her children. Her eldest aunt, María Luisa Ramis, was the first woman in Puerto Rico to open a laboratory and all her aunts worked there. As a teenager, her family moved to the upscale Miramar section and she and her elder brother had to change schools. Gilda Galán
Gilda Galán (January 16, 1917 – June 21, 2009) was a Puerto Rican actress, comedian, writer, composer, scriptwriter and poet. The veteran actress, whose career spanned decades, enjoyed one of the longest careers in the history of the Puerto Rican entertainment industry. Life Gilda Galán was born in Guayama, Puerto Rico, in 1917. Galán died on Sunday afternoon, June 21, 2009, at 1:06 P.M. at El Hogar Alivio Dorado in Carolina, Puerto Rico at the age of 92.
