The President of the National Council is the presiding officer of the National Council, the lower house of the Austrian Parliament. Since December 2017 Wolfgang Sobotka (ÖVP) has served as the current President of the National Council, Doris Bures (SPÖ) as the Second President and Norbert Hofer (FPÖ) as the Third. All three Presidents together form the Presidium of the National Council. In the Austrian order of precedence the President of the National Council places after the President and before the Chancellor. Election The President, the second and the third President are elected by the majority of the National Council at the beginning of each legislative session. The Presidium even remains active after the dissolution of the National Council, until the Council obtains its new elected leadership. The current coat of arms of the Republic of Austria has been in use in its first forms by the Austria, First Republic of Austria since 1919. Between 1934 and the Anschluss, German annexation in 1938, the ''Federal State (Bundesstaat Österreich)'' used a different coat of arms, which consisted of a double-headed eagle (one-party corporatism, corporate state led by the clerico-right-wing Fatherland Front (Austria), Fatherland Front - often labeled austro-fascist). The establishment of the Second Republic in 1945 saw the return of the original arms, with broken chains added to symbolise Austria's liberation. Austrian People's Party
The Austrian People's Party (german: Österreichische Volkspartei , ÖVP ) is a Christian-democratic and liberal-conservative political party in Austria. Since December 2021, the party has been led provisionally by Karl Nehammer. It is currently the largest party in the National Council, with 71 of the 183 seats, and won 37.5% of votes cast in the 2019 legislative election. It holds seats in all nine state legislatures, and is part of government in seven, of which it leads six. The ÖVP is a member of the International Democrat Union and the European People's Party. The Greater German People's Party (German ''Großdeutsche Volkspartei'', abbreviated GDVP) was a German nationalist and national liberal political party during the First Republic of Austria, established in 1920. Jodok Fink
Jodok Fink (19 February 1853 – 1 July 1929) was an Austrian farmer and politician who was a member of the Christian Social Party of Austria (CS). He served as first Vice-Chancellor of Austria from 1919 to 1920. Life Fink was born in Andelsbuch, in the Bregenz Forest region, the son of a farmer's family. He and his younger brother Alois were the only surviving children; his father died when Fink was four years old, whereafter his mother remarried. The bright pupil went on to attend the Gymnasium secondary school in Brixen but soon had to abandon his education to work on his family's farmstead. Fink began his political career in 1879, when he was elected a member of the municipal assembly (''Gemeindeausschuss'') in Andelsbuch and served as mayor from 1888 to 1897.
