List Of Presidents Of The Minnesota Senate
The president of the Minnesota Senate is the presiding officer of the Minnesota Senate. Until 1973, the Lieutenant Governor of Minnesota served as the Senate president. Since then, presidents have been elected by the body, usually at the nomination of the majority. While power within the Senate lies primarily with the Minnesota Senate Majority Leader, the president of the Senate does succeed to Lieutenant Governor in the event that office becomes vacant, something which happened most recently in 2018. From statehood until 1973, the Lieutenant Governor served as president. Not all lieutenant governors served at the same time as the Senate was in session. Bobby Joe Champion
Bobby Joe Champion (born December 17, 1963) is an American attorney and politician serving as a member of the Minnesota Senate. A member of the Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party (DFL), he represents the 59th district, which includes portions of downtown and north Minneapolis in Hennepin County. He is the incumbent President of the Minnesota Senate. Early life and education Champion was born in Minneapolis and graduated from Minneapolis North High School. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Macalester College and a Juris Doctor from the William Mitchell College of Law. Thomas Frankson (September 16, 1869 – June 8, 1939) was born in York Township, Minnesota. He was the 22nd Lieutenant Governor of Minnesota from 1917 to 1921. Frankson was a lawyer, real estate developer, and politician. He died June 8, 1939, in St. Paul, Minnesota. Adolph Olson Eberhart (June 30, 1870 – December 6, 1944) was an American politician, who served as the 17th Governor of Minnesota. Background Adolph Olson Eberhart was born in Kil, in Värmland, Sweden, the son of Andrew and Louise Olson. Because of bad economic conditions, Andrew, Louise and all of the family except Adolph emigrated to St. Peter, Minnesota. In 1882, Adolph joined the family there. Eberhart graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College, St. Peter, Minnesota (1895) and studied law in a law office in Mankato, Minnesota.
