List Of Premonstratensian Monasteries In France
This article is a list of Premonstratensian monasteries in France, that is to say, monasteries or nunneries belonging to the Premonstratensian Order of canons regular, following the Rule of St. Augustine. In the early days of the order its foundations were mostly double monasteries, viz., communities containing both canons and nuns. After a few decades however the joint houses were separated. The dates given, unless otherwise indicated, are the dates when an establishment began and ended its Premontratensian career, which is not necessarily the same as its lifespan as a religious house. Extant abbeys are indicated by bold characters. Hastingues
Hastingues (; oc, Hastings, eu, Hastinga) is a commune in the Landes department in Nouvelle-Aquitaine in southwestern France. Its nickname, due to its location on a rounded-shaped hill, is Lou Carcolh (the snail). Geography The town lies on a hill looking over the valley of the Gaves réunis, in the Gascon region and bordering on the Basque Country. History The bastide was founded in 1289 by John Hastings, seneschal of Gascony, who signed a treaty of coregency in the name of Edward I of England between the king, Duke of Aquitaine and the monks of Arthous abbey. The work on the gate was started in 1289, but the town wall still was not complete in the 15th century. The houses of Jurats and Sénéchal were built in the same century. Paimpol
Paimpol (; ) is a commune in the Côtes-d'Armor department in Brittany in northwest France. It is a tourist destination, especially during the summer months when people are attracted by its port and beaches. Geography The town is located in the north of Brittany, at the western end of the bay of Saint-Brieuc, at the bottom of the bay of Paimpol. The town is on the old national road D 786, 72 mi east of Saint-Malo, 23 mi south-east of Saint-Brieuc, 21 mi west of Lannion (sub-prefecture) and 44 mi to the south-west of Morlaix . The Roman Catholic Diocese of Saint-Brieuc and Tréguier (Latin: ''Dioecesis Briocensis et Trecorensis''; French: ''Diocèse de Saint-Brieuc et Tréguier''; br, Eskopti Sant-Brieg ha Landreger) is a diocese of the Latin Rite of the Roman Catholic Church in France. The Diocese of Troyes (Latin: ''Dioecesis Trecensis''; French: ''Diocèse de Troyes'') is a Latin Church ecclesiastical territory or diocese of the Catholic Church in Troyes, France. The diocese now comprises the ''département'' of Aube. Erected in the 4th century, the diocese is currently a suffragan diocese in the ecclesiastical province of the metropolitan Archdiocese of Reims. It was re-established in 1802 as a suffragan of the Archbishopric of Paris, when it comprised the ''départements'' of Aube and Yonne and its bishop had the titles of Troyes, Auxerre, and Châlons-sur-Marne. In church governance, a diocese or bishopric is the ecclesiastical district under the jurisdiction of a bishop. History In the later organization of the Roman Empire, the increasingly subdivided provinces were administratively associated in a larger unit, the diocese (Latin ''dioecesis'', from the Greek term διοίκησις, meaning "administration"). Christianity was given legal status in 313 with the Edict of Milan. Churches began to organize themselves into dioceses based on the civil dioceses, not on the larger regional imperial districts. Auxerre ( , ) is the capital of the Yonne department and the fourth-largest city in Burgundy.
