People's Artist Of Azerbaijan
People's Artist of Azerbaijan ( Azerbaijani: ''Xalq rəssamı'') is the honorary title and award granted for contribution to the development of Azerbaijani culture. History The People's Artists of the Azerbaijan SSR (1931–1990) was a precursor award given during the time of the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic, Soviet Union. In May 22, 1998, the honorary title "People's Artist of Azerbaijan" was established by Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, along with some other titles. The President of Azerbaijan confers the honorary title on his initiative, as well as on the proposal of the National Assembly and the Cabinet of Ministers. The title is awarded only to citizens of Azerbaijan. According to the decree, the honorary title of "People's Artist of Azerbaijan" cannot be awarded to the same person repeatedly. Gamar Almaszadeh
Gamar Hajiaga qizi Almaszadeh ( az, Qəmər Hacıağa qızı Almaszadə) (10 March 1915, Baku – 7 April 2006, Baku) was a Soviet and Azerbaijani ballerina and ballet instructor. She's considered the first ballerina of the Muslim world. Early life Gamar Almaszadeh (nicknamed Tamara) was born in Baku to a family of a shoemaker and a midwife, Hajiaga and Maryam Almaszadeh. She became interested in ballet at a very young age, when she saw her friend perform ballet moves. Persuaded by her friend she signed up for ballet lessons at a private studio (later reorganized into the Baku School of Choreography). Gamar's mother approved of her daughter's new interest but her father Hajiaga Almaszadeh, a conservative Muslim, had to be misled into believing that Gamar was attending gym in order to have him pay for her lessons. Leyla Vakilova
Leyla Mahad qizi Vakilova ( az, Leyla Vəkilova) (27 January 1927, Baku – 21 February 1999, Baku) was a Soviet and Azerbaijani ballerina and ballet instructor. Career Leyla Vakilova was born in Baku, Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic, Soviet Union. She took ballet lessons at the Baku School of Choreography from prominent Azerbaijani ballerina Gamar Almaszadeh. In 1945, she left for Moscow to gain experience in the field of ballet at the Moscow State Academy of Choreography. After returning to Baku in 1946, she made her first ballet performance as Tao Khoa in ''The Red Poppy'' by Reinhold Glière at the Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre where she worked for the next 30 years. Fikret Mashadi Jamil oghlu Amirov ( az, Fikrət Məşədi Cəmil oğlu Əmirov; November 22, 1922, Ganja – February 20, 1984, Baku) was a prominent Soviet and Azerbaijani composer. Biography Fikret Amirov grew up in an atmosphere of Azerbaijani folk music. His father, Mashadi Jamil Amirov, was a famous mugam singer ("''xanəndə''"), who played tar and composed, including the 1915 opera '' Seyfal mulk''. During his childhood and early adolescence, Fikret began composing pieces for the piano. Upon his graduation from the Ganja Music College, Amirov entered the Azerbaijan State Conservatoire, now known as the Baku Music Academy, where he was a student of Boris Zeidman and Uzeyir Hajibeyov. Said Rustamov ( az, Səid Rüstəmov), born Mir-Jabbar Ali oglu Seyid-Rustamzadeh (12 May 1907 in Erivan – 10 June 1983 in Baku), was a Soviet Azerbaijani composer and conductor. Life and contributions Said Rustamov was born in Yerevan where he spent his early years and went to primary school. He was the youngest of the family's four children. After his father's death and his mother's second marriage, he was taken in and brought up by his older brother who had been married by that time. Niyazi Zulfugar oghlu Taghizade Hajibeyov ( az, Niyazi Zülfüqar bəy oğlu Hacıbəyov) (1912–1984) was a prominent Soviet Azerbaijani conductor, and composer of the renowned symphonic mugham "Rast". Early life Niyazi was born on August 20, 1912 in Tbilisi in a family of prominent Shusha musicians. His father was the composer Zulfugar Hajibeyov. He is the nephew of Uzeyir Hajibeyov, the founder of the Azeri classical music. He was playing the violin in "Qırmızı Kadet" Turkish military orchestra in 1921. He studied at the Gnessin Music School in Moscow in 1925-1926. In 1929-30 he studied at the Central Musical Technical School in Leningrad (now Saint Petersburg), but dropped out due to health problems. He returned to Baku in 1931. Rashid Behbudov was born in Tbilisi in 1915. His father, Majid Behbudov, was a singer as well. In 1945, upon the invitation of Tofig Guliyev, Rashid Behbudov moved to Baku.
