The George Foster Peabody Awards (or simply Peabody Awards or the Peabodys) program, named for the American businessman and philanthropist George Peabody, honor the most powerful, enlightening, and invigorating stories in television, radio, and online media. The awards were conceived by the National Association of Broadcasters in 1938 as the radio industry’s equivalent of the Pulitzer Prizes. Programs are recognized in seven categories: news, entertainment, documentaries, children's programming, education, interactive programming, and public service. The Andersonville Trial
''The Andersonville Trial'' is an American television adaptation of a 1959 hit Broadway play by Saul Levitt. It was presented as an episode of the PBS anthology series '' Hollywood Television Theatre'' on May 17, 1970. Description The movie was based on the actual 1865 trial of Henry Wirz, played by Richard Basehart, commander of the infamous Confederate Andersonville prison, where thousands of Union prisoners died of exposure, malnutrition, and disease. A notable cast included William Shatner as the Chief JAG Prosecutor Norton Parker Chipman, Jack Cassidy (who was nominated for an Emmy) as Wirz's defense counsel, Cameron Mitchell as Lew Wallace, a Union general and the future author of '' Ben-Hur'', and Buddy Ebsen as a Georgia physician called in to testify about the fate of many of the Union prisoners. ''All the Way Home'' is a play written by the American playwright Tad Mosel, adapted from the 1957 James Agee novel ''A Death in the Family''. Each author received the Pulitzer Prize for their separate works. Productions ''All the Way Home'' was premiered on Broadway at the Belasco Theater on November 30, 1960, and closed on September 15, 1961, after 333 performances. Mississippi Public Broadcasting (MPB) is the public broadcasting state network serving the U.S. state of Mississippi. It is owned by the Mississippi Authority for Educational Television (MAET), an agency of the state government that holds the licenses for all of the PBS and NPR member stations in the state. MPB's headquarters is located on Ridgewood Road in northeast Jackson. History Mississippi was a relative latecomer to public broadcasting. ''Brian's Song'' is a 1971 ABC Movie of the Week that recounts the life of Brian Piccolo (James Caan), a Chicago Bears football player stricken with terminal cancer after turning pro in 1965, told through his friendship with teammate Gale Sayers (Billy Dee Williams). Piccolo's and Sayers's sharply differing temperaments and racial backgrounds made them unlikely to become friends but they did, becoming the first interracial roommates in the history of the National Football League. The film chronicles the evolution of their friendship, ending with Piccolo's death in 1970. William Blinn
William Frederick Blinn (July 21, 1937 – October 22, 2020) was an American screenwriter and television producer. Life and career Blinn was born in Toledo, Ohio, the son of Clare Allen and Pearl Ariel (Schaeffer) Blinn. Blinn began his career in television in the 1960s. As a screenwriter, Blinn wrote episodes of '' Rawhide'', ''Gunsmoke'', ''The Rookies'', ''Here Come the Brides'' and ''Shane'' (where he was also story editor), and '' Fame'' (where he also served as executive producer). In 1971, Blinn wrote the screenplay for the television movie ''Brian's Song'' for which he won an Emmy and Peabody Award. He won a second Emmy in 1977 for his work on the miniseries ''Roots''. Make A Wish (TV Series)
''Make a Wish'' is an American children's television series which ran on ABC from 1971 to 1976. Produced by ABC News, it was hosted by musician Tom Chapin and created and produced by Lester Cooper. It replaced ''Discovery'', a similar series for children also produced by ABC News since 1962. Each episode of the series, broadcast on Sunday mornings, focused on a particular theme. One episode, for instance, was about snakes, and another was about motorcycles. Chapin would introduce the topic in much the same manner: "I think a snake is what I'll be. Imagine all the possibilities." After that there would be a sort of free association presentation on the theme featuring stock footage, animation and Chapin's music and voiceover commentary.
