List Of Pan American Championships
A Pan American Championship is a top level international sports competition between athletes or sports teams representing their respective countries or professional sports clubs in the Americas. Typically these championships are recurring, the most common formats being annual, biennial and quadrennial. The Pan American Games is the highest level sporting competition for the region. It is common for there to be sport-specific governing bodies to organise these regional competitions, such as the Pan American Judo Confederation. Beach Handball
Beach handball is a team sport where two teams pass and bounce or roll a ball, trying to throw it in the goal of the opposing team. The game is similar to standard handball, but it is played on sand instead of on a solid floor. Because the ball loses most of its bounce on sand, there is little to no dribbling, and players instead perform more passing as the rules of travelling still apply. Description Matches are played as best two-out-of-three sets. If teams are tied at the end of a regular set then the teams play for a golden goal. If the teams are tied at the end of 2 sets then the teams will participate in a tie breaker. The tie break involves a goalie throwing the ball to their own player while that player attempts to score one-on-one with the opposing goalie. 1980 Tournament Of The Americas
The 1980 Tournament of the Americas, since 2005 called the FIBA Americas Championship or the FIBA AmeriCup, was the inaugural edition of this basketball tournament, and it was hosted by Puerto Rico in San Juan from April 18 to April 25, 1980. The berths allocated to the Americas for the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow were determined. The United States did not participate in the tournament. Puerto Rico won the tournament by going 5-1 in the round robin. Because of the U.S.-led boycott of the 1980 Summer Olympic Games, eventual berths went to Brazil, the fourth-place finisher, and Cuba, the sixth-place finisher. FIBA Americas Championship
The FIBA AmeriCup (previously known as the FIBA Americas Championship) is the Americas Basketball Championship that takes place every four years between national teams of the Western Hemisphere continents. Since FIBA organised the entire Western Hemisphere west of the Atlantic Ocean under one zone, countries from North America, Central America, the Caribbean and South America compete in this tournament. Through the 2015 edition, the Americas Championship took place every two years, and was also a qualifying tournament for the FIBA World Cup and the Summer Olympic Games.
