Judo
is an unarmed gendai budō, modern Japanese martial art, Olympic sport (since 1964), and the most prominent form of jacket wrestling competed internationally.『日本大百科全書』電子版【柔道】(CD-ROM version of Encyclopedia Nipponica, "Judo"). Judo was created in 1882 by Kanō Jigorō () as an eclectic martial art, distinguishing itself from its predecessors (primarily Tenjin Shin'yō-ryū, Tenjin Shinyo-ryu jujutsu and Kitō-ryū jujutsu) due to an emphasis on "randori" (, lit. 'free sparring') instead of "kata" (pre-arranged forms) alongside its removal of striking and weapon training elements. Tadanori Koshino
is a retired judoka who competed in the -60 kg division. Biography Koshino began learning judo with a local sports team while he was in elementary school, and became the Hokkaidō Prefecture champion for his weight class in junior-high school. He placed third in the inter-highschool tournament during his senior year, and entered Tōkai University in 1985. He won the Shoriki Cup twice while attending the university, and joined the Toyo Suisan corporation after graduating. He won the Kodokan Cup for 4 consecutive years from 1989–1992 and All-Japan Weight Class Judo Championships for 3 consecutive years from 1989–1991, and placed second in the World Judo Championships in 1989 before winning the world championships in 1991. He retired from competitive judo after finishing with a bronze medal at the 1992 Summer Olympics. He became an instructor for the International Budo University in April, 1993. Choi Min-ho () is a South Korean judoka. He was born on August 18, 1980 in Gimcheon, Gyeongsangbuk-do, South Korea. Khashbaataryn Tsagaanbaatar
Khashbaataryn Tsagaanbaatar ( mn, Хашбаатарын Цагаанбаатар) is the single medal winner from Mongolia at the 2004 Summer Olympics. He won a bronze medal in judo. He became the first Mongolian to win the gold medal at the World Judo Championships in Rotterdam in 2009. Tsagaanbaatar is also the older brother of LSU quarterback Naimanzuunnadintsetseg Tsagaanbaatar. He also took gold medal in the 2006 Asian Games. Recently he also won a gold medal at the 2007 New York Open in the under-66 kg weight division. He won with a traditional technique, the kata guruma is one of the traditional forty throws of judo as developed by Kano Jigoro. Nestor Khergiani
Nestor Khergiani ( ka, ნესტორ ხერგიანი, born July 20, 1975) is a Georgian judoka. He obtained silver medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics in the -60 kg event where he lost in the final to Tadahiro Nomura. Khergiani won silver in 2007 World Judo Championships and bronze in 1999 World Judo Championships. Judo At The 2004 Summer Olympics
Judo at the 2004 Summer Olympics took place in the Ano Liossia Olympic Hall and featured 368 judoka competing for 14 gold medals with seven different weight categories in both the men's and women's competitions. Japan dominated the event by taking 8 gold and 2 silver medals. Gold and silver medals in each weight class were determined by a single-elimination bracket. There was a repechage for those who are eliminated by one of the eventual semifinalists. Since there are four semifinalists, this means that four of the losers of the round of 32 (i.e., 25%) faced four of the losers from the round of 16 (50%). The winners of these matches faced the four judokas who have lost in the quarterfinals. The winners, then, of these four matches faced each other to narrow the repechage field down to two judokas.
