First-class Cricket
First-class cricket, along with List A cricket and Twenty20 cricket, is one of the highest-standard forms of cricket. A first-class match is one of three or more days' scheduled duration between two sides of eleven players each and is officially adjudged to be worthy of the status by virtue of the standard of the competing teams. Matches must allow for the teams to play two innings each, although in practice a team might play only one innings or none at all. The etymology of "first-class cricket" is unknown, but it was used loosely before it acquired official status in 1895, following a meeting of leading English clubs. At a meeting of the Imperial Cricket Conference (ICC) in 1947, it was formally defined on a global basis. A significant omission of the ICC ruling was any attempt to define first-class cricket retrospectively. James Baker (New Zealand Cricketer)
James Baker (born 16 February 1988) is a New Zealand cricketer who plays for Northern Districts and captains the Samoa cricket team. He was the leading wicket-taker in the 2017–18 Plunket Shield season for Northern Districts, with 34 dismissals in ten matches. In June 2018, he was awarded a contract with Northern Districts for the 2018–19 season. In June 2019, he was selected to represent the Samoa cricket team in the men's tournament at the 2019 Pacific Games. Matthew David Bell (born 25 February 1977) is a former New Zealand international cricketer. He played domestic cricket for Wellington cricket team, Wellington and Northern Districts men's cricket team, Northern Districts between 1993 and 2011 and played in 18 Test cricket, Test matches and seven One Day Internationals for New Zealand national cricket team, the national team. Don Beard
Donald Derek Beard (14 January 1920 – 15 July 1982) was a New Zealand cricketer who played in four Tests from 1952 to 1956. Early life and career Don Beard grew up in the country near Palmerston North, cycling 15 miles a day to attend Palmerston North Boys' High School. After teacher training in Auckland, he attended Victoria University in Wellington, from where he completed a Diploma in Education in 1946 and a Master of Arts in 1948. His thesis was on the history of physical education in New Zealand primary schools. An accurate fast-medium bowler and useful lower-order batsman, Beard was selected to make his first-class debut for Wellington in the first round of Plunket Shield matches after the Second World War in December 1945, but he had not fully recovered from burns he had received while fighting a fire, and was replaced by Ray Buchan. Derek Andrew Beard (born 10 September 1961) is a former New Zealand cricketer who played first-class and List A cricket for Northern Districts from 1987 to 1991. His father, Don Beard, played Test cricket for New Zealand in the 1950s. A medium-pace bowler, Beard's best first-class figures were 6 for 18 (off 10 overs) against Central Districts in 1989–90.
