Nine Network
The Nine Network (stylised 9Network, commonly known as Channel Nine or simply Nine) is an Australian commercial free-to-air television network. It is owned by parent company Nine Entertainment and is one of five main free-to-air television networks in Australia. From 2017 to 2021, the network's slogan has been "We Are the One". Since 2021, the network has changed its slogan back to the iconic Golden Era slogan "Still the One". As of 2022, the Nine Network is the second-rated television network in Australia, behind the Seven Network, and ahead of the ABC TV, Network 10 and SBS. History Origins The Nine Network's first broadcasting station was launched in Sydney, New South Wales, as TCN-9 on 16 September 1956 by ''The Daily Telegraph'' owner Frank Packer. ABC Television (Australian TV Network)
ABC Television is the general name for the national television services of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC). Until an organisational restructure in 2017/2018, ABC Television was also the name of a division of the ABC. The name was also used to refer to the first and for many years the only national ABC channel, before it was renamed ABC1 and then again to ABC TV. The Australian public broadcaster's television service was launched in November 1956 from its first television station in Australia, ABN Sydney. This was the second one in the country, with the commercial channel TCN having launched two months earlier. An ABC television network covering every state and territory was completed by 1971, and in 2000 the television operations joined the ABC radio and online divisions at the Corporation's Ultimo headquarters in Sydney in 2000. The Block (Australian TV Series)
''The Block'' is an Australian reality television series broadcast on the Nine Network. The series follows four or five couples as they compete against each other to renovate and style houses/apartments and sell them at auction for the highest price. The original series first ran for two consecutive seasons in 2003 and 2004, and was originally hosted by Jamie Durie. The Nine Network revived ''The Block'' after a six-year absence, with a third season commenced airing on 22 September 2010, this time hosted by television personality and builder Scott Cam. Shelley Craft joined as co-host from the fourth season. ''The Block'' has a large number of commercial sponsors and prominently features brand sponsorships regularly throughout episodes. Domestic Blitz
''Domestic Blitz'' is an Australian lifestyle and DIY television series that originally aired on the Nine Network from 18 May 2008 to 18 April 2010. The series is based on the format of ''Backyard Blitz'', which had previously aired on the Nine Network, and generally occupied its same former timeslot of Sunday 6:30 to 7:30 pm. Rather than rewarding nominated candidates with solely a garden makeover though, ''Domestic Blitz'' introduced the element of house renovations as well. The series exhibits similarities to the American television series '' Extreme Makeover: Home Edition'' and the Angry Anderson A Current Affair "challenges" (1994–1998) in that the candidates either come from a disadvantaged background, or include someone with a terminal illness. Backyard Blitz
''Backyard Blitz'' is a Logie Award winning Australian lifestyle and DIY television program that aired on the Nine Network between 2000 through to 2007 before its cancellation. It was hosted by Jamie Durie and was created by Don Burke and produced by his CTC Productions team. Overview The show featured a very similar premise to the show '' Ground Force'', in which a team of gardeners employed by the show descend on a supposedly worthy individual's place and improve the garden for the cameras within a specified time limit. This similarity led to legal action being taken by the rival Seven Network, which at the time was set to debut an Australian version of ''Ground Force''. Seven ultimately lost its claim as Don Burke's CTC was able to argue that Burke's previous program '' Burke's Backyard'' had featured backyard garden renovations which they claimed naturally morphed into the ''Backyard Blitz'' concept. Burkes Backyard
''Burke's Backyard'' was an Australian gardening and lifestyle series presented by horticulturist Don Burke, broadcast on both radio and television. On television, it was a regular weekly series on the Nine Network from 12 September 1987 to 26 November 2004. History The program began on the Sydney AM radio station 2UE on Saturday and Sunday mornings before being picked up by the Nine Network in late 1987. Channel 9 broadcast the show on Friday evenings for the next 17 years. It is currently being broadcast on radio by 2UE and syndicated stations on Saturday and Sunday mornings. A magazine of the same name as the television program was published as a merchandising tie-in by Australian Consolidated Press. Scott Cam
Scott Cam (born 24 November 1962) is an Australian television presenter, a recipient of the Gold Logie appearing on several lifestyle programmes on the Nine Network. He is best known as the host of the hit reality TV renovation show '' The Block''. Career Cam first appeared on Nine's popular lifestyle show ''Backyard Blitz'' in 2000, alongside Jamie Durie, doing building segments until the show's cancellation in 2006. In between, he appeared on the successful ''Renovation Rescue'' (2004–present) before appearing in his own live lifestyle program '' Our Place''. ''Today Extra'' is an Australian morning talk show, with an infotainment base, hosted by David Campbell and Sylvia Jeffreys. The show airs between 9:00 am and 11:30 am weekdays and follows the Nine Network's breakfast news program ''Today'', with both programs closely interlinked. The show is broadcast from the Nine Network studios in North Sydney, a suburb located on the North Shore of Sydney, New South Wales. Mark Burrows
Mark Burrows is an Australian television news presenter and journalist. He is currently a senior correspondent for Nine News in Sydney. Burrows is also a news presenter for '' Today Extra'', Nine's morning and afternoon news on Monday's and is a stand-in presenter for Nine News Sydney at 6 pm. Burrows has been a journalist for the Nine Network for more than three decades. Career Burrows spent almost six years working as Nine's US correspondent, covering two US presidential elections, the LA riots and earthquakes. In 1996 he was Nine’s reporter for the Atlanta Olympics. In 1997 Burrows was posted to Nine's London Bureau where he covered the death of Princess Diana and the Iraq war. ''A Current Affair'' (or ''ACA'') is an Australian current affairs program airing weeknights and Saturday nights on the Nine Network. The program is currently hosted by Allison Langdon (Monday–Thursday) and Deborah Knight (Friday and Saturday). History 1970s ''A Current Affair'' was first broadcast on 22 November 1971, with Mike Willesee, screening weeknights at 7:00 p.m., and was broadcast for GTV-9. For part of its early run, the comedian and actor Paul Hogan had a comic social commentary segment. Under Willesee, ACA was a Transmedia production for the Nine Network.
