Nicaragua
Nicaragua (; ), officially the Republic of Nicaragua (), is the largest country in Central America, bordered by Honduras to the north, the Caribbean to the east, Costa Rica to the south, and the Pacific Ocean to the west. Managua is the country's capital and largest city. , it was estimated to be the second largest city in Central America. Nicaragua's multiethnic population of six million includes people of mestizo, indigenous, European and African heritage. The main language is Spanish. Indigenous tribes on the Mosquito Coast speak their own languages and English. ''Alsino and the Condor'' ( es, Alsino y el cóndor) is a 1982 List of Nicaraguan films, Nicaraguan film directed by Chilean filmmaker Miguel Littín. It was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. It won the Golden Prize at the 13th Moscow International Film Festival. The film was a co-production between Nicaragua, Mexico and Cuba. The film is loosely based on the novel ''Alsino'' by Chilean writer Pedro Prado, and is set during the Nicaraguan Revolution. ''Daughter of Rage'' ( Spanish: ''La hija de todas las rabias'', ) is a 2022 drama film written, directed and co-produced by Laura Baumeister de Montis in her directorial debut. It is about María who is abandoned by her mother in a recycling plant where she is forced to work with other children. Starring Ara Alejandra Medal. It is a co-production between Nicaragua, Mexico, the Netherlands, Germany, France and Norway. Synopsis María, 11 years old, lives with her mother Lilibeth on the edge of a huge garbage dump. Her future depends on selling a litter of purebred puppies to a local gang member. When the deal falls through, Lilibeth is forced to go to the outskirts of the city and leave Maria in a recycling factory where she has to stay working. Days go by and the mother does not return. ''Exiled'' ( es, Exiliada) is a 2019 Nicaraguan documentary film directed by Leonor Zúniga. The film features interviews with Zoilamérica Ortega Murillo, stepdaughter of the leader of the Sandinista Revolution and Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega. In 1998 she accused him of sexually abusing her as a child; almost twenty years later, she lives in exile in Costa Rica with her ten-year old son. The film takes place during Ortega's electoral campaign, as he seeks reelection and reaching power for the fourth time, and develops in two periods: the past, using archive footage when Zoilamérica made her accusation in 1998, and the present, in 2016, after being forced to live in exile. Production Zúniga wrestled with making the film, as it risked the possibility that she would also have to go into exile. ''La Yuma'' is a 2009 Nicaraguan drama film directed by Florence Jaugey.
