Rugby league football, commonly known as just rugby league and sometimes football, footy, rugby or league, is a full-contact sport played by two teams of thirteen players on a rectangular field measuring 68 metres (75 yards) wide and 112–122 metres (122 to 133 yards) long with H shaped posts at both ends. It is one of the two codes of rugby football, the other being rugby union. South Island Rugby League Team
The South Island rugby league team is a rugby league team that represents the South Island of New Zealand. They are nicknamed the Scorpions. The side previously represented the Southern Zone in the Albert Baskerville Trophy. However, they now only compete in the under 15 and under 17 National Competitions. Historically, teams representing the South Island played annual fixtures against the North Island and also played touring international sides. Touring Teams The South Island last played an international side when they played France in 2001, losing 24–18. The team included Robert Henare and Aaron Whittaker. Tasman Rugby League Team
The Tasman rugby league team are New Zealand rugby league team that represents the Tasman Rugby League. They have previously been nicknamed the ''Orcas'' but in 2010 adopted the ''Titans'' nickname. The district was previously known as ''Nelson/Marlborough''. History Early years Nelson held one of the first New Zealand rugby league competitions in 1910 and the region produced four New Zealand representatives between 1910 and 1911; Charles James, Pat Hannigan, Dave Mason and Bert Feary. In many parts of New Zealand, rugby league went into recess with the outbreak of World War I. In 1991 Nelson, who were coached by former Kiwi Kevin Dixon, played a three match series against Marlborough, winning the first 30-20 before losing the second 24-32 and drawing the third match 26-all. The Wellington Rugby League Team (also known as the Wellington Orcas) are a rugby league team that represents the Wellington Rugby League in New Zealand Rugby League competitions. Gisborne Tairawhiti Rugby League Team
The Gisborne Tairawhiti rugby league team are New Zealand rugby league team that represents the Gisborne Tairawhiti Rugby League. In the past they were known as the Gisborne East Coast Lions. History The Gisborne and East Coast region has not been a strong rugby league area and as a result the team has not been very strong at a national level. For example, the team was winless between 1991 and 1994.''Lion Red Rugby League Annual 1994'', New Zealand Rugby Football League, 1994. p.176-178 The team did not compete in the Lion Red Cup, with the region being represented by the Hawke's Bay Unicorns. Manawatu Rugby League Team
The Manawatu rugby league team are a rugby league team that represents the Manawatu Rugby League in New Zealand Rugby League competitions. They have the nickname the Mustangs and between 2002 and 2007 competed in the Bartercard Cup as the Central Falcons. Manawatu has a strong domestic scene and clubs compete in the "Western Alliance" region alongside Taranaki clubs. History Rugby league in the region was first recorded in 1924 when a match was played between a Manawatu side against Wellington. All Black Alphonsus Carroll was part of the Manawatu team and the following season he was selected for New Zealand to tour Australia. The match with Wellington was drawn 14-14 and was played at Foxton. However it was not until 1971 that Manawatu had its first ever registered win, against Bay of Plenty 24 - 19. The season remains the team's most successful.

The Taranaki rugby league team (also known as the Taranaki Wildcats, formerly the Taranaki Sharks and the Taranaki Rockets) are New Zealand rugby league team that represents the Taranaki Rugby League. They currently compete in the NZRL National Competition (Zonal team) and the Rugby League Cup (District team). History 1908–1993 Taranaki competed in the very first season of provincial rugby league in New Zealand. They shared a two match series with Auckland 1-all. The Coastline rugby league team are New Zealand rugby league team that represents the Coastline Rugby League. They have been nicknamed the ''Mariners''. History The first time Coastline competed as an independent district was in 1995, previously they had been represented by the Bay of Plenty side. The Bay of Plenty rugby league team (also known as the Bay of Plenty Lakers) are a New Zealand rugby league team who represents the Bay of Plenty Rugby League in New Zealand Rugby League competitions. Between 1994 and 1996 they competed in the Lion Red Cup competition, while in 2008 and 2009 they competed in the Bartercard Premiership. History Early Efforts In 1921 former New Zealand international George Iles moved from Auckland to live in Tauranga. In 1922 he was part of an effort to establish rugby league in the Tauranga area. The Tauranga Rugby League was started in March, 1922 and they looked to play rugby league teams from other areas. They made efforts to organise a game with the newly formed Rotorua league team. On the 16th of September history was made in Tauranga with the first ever game of rugby league played there. Tauranga took on the Rotorua team on the Tauranga Domain. The Counties Manukau rugby league team represents the Counties Manukau zone in the Albert Baskerville Trophy. Previously, teams representing Southern Auckland and the Franklin district of New Zealand have competed in the Lion Red Cup and Bartercard Cup.
