List Of National Hockey League Mascots
This is a list of current and former National Hockey League (NHL) mascots, sorted alphabetically. The New York Rangers are the only team to have never had a mascot. Current mascots Al the Octopus Al the Octopus is the octopus mascot of the Detroit Red Wings. It is also the only mascot that is not costumed. In 1952, when east side fish merchants Pete and Jerry Cusimano threw a real octopus onto the Olympia arena ice, the eight legs represented the eight victories needed to secure a Stanley Cup in those six-team days. Since then, fans throw an octopus onto the ice for good luck. In the 1995 Playoffs, fans threw fifty-four onto the ice. Arena Manager and Zamboni driver Al Sobotka ceremoniously scoops them up and whirls them over his head, and play continues. Mark Bavis
Mark Lawrence Bavis (March 13, 1970 – September 11, 2001) was an American Hockey League left winger. Biography Born in Roslindale, Massachusetts on March 13, 1970, he started his career playing hockey while attending Boston University. After he graduated, he played with the Providence Bruins and Fredericton Canadiens in the American Hockey League, then the South Carolina Stingrays in the ECHL, previously the East Coast Hockey League. Bavis was also a scout with the Los Angeles Kings. On September 11, 2001, Bavis was traveling from Boston to Los Angeles aboard United Airlines Flight 175 when it was hijacked and deliberately flown into the South Tower of the World Trade Center, killing everyone onboard. Winnipeg Jets
The Winnipeg Jets are a professional ice hockey team based in Winnipeg. The team competes in the National Hockey League (NHL) as a member of the Central Division in the Western Conference, and is owned by True North Sports & Entertainment, playing its home games at Canada Life Centre. The Jets were established as the Atlanta Thrashers on June 25, 1997, and began play in the 1999–2000 NHL season. True North Sports & Entertainment then bought the team in May 2011, and relocated the franchise to Winnipeg prior to the 2011–12 season, making them the first NHL franchise to relocate since the Hartford Whalers became the Carolina Hurricanes in 1997. Bennie And The Jets
"Bennie and the Jets" (also titled "Benny & the Jets") is a song written by English musician Elton John and songwriter Bernie Taupin, and performed by John. The song first appeared on the ''Goodbye Yellow Brick Road'' album in 1973. "Bennie and the Jets" has been one of John's most popular songs and was performed during his appearance at Live Aid. The Vancouver Canucks are a professional ice hockey team based in Vancouver. They compete in the National Hockey League (NHL) as a member of the Pacific Division of the Western Conference, and play their home games at Rogers Arena. United Center is an indoor arena on the Near West Side of Chicago, Illinois, United States.
