Non-governmental Organizations
A non-governmental organization (NGO) or non-governmental organisation (see spelling differences) is an organization that generally is formed independent from government. They are typically nonprofit entities, and many of them are active in humanitarianism or the social sciences; they can also include clubs and associations that provide services to their members and others. Surveys indicate that NGOs have a high degree of public trust, which can make them a useful proxy for the concerns of society and stakeholders. However, NGOs can also be lobby groups for corporations, such as the World Economic Forum. NGOs are distinguished from international and intergovernmental organizations (''IOs'') in that the latter are more directly involved with sovereign states and their governments. DKT International
DKT International (DKT) is a charitable non-profit organization that promotes family planning and HIV prevention through social marketing. The Washington, D.C.-based DKT was founded in 1989 by Phil Harvey and operates in 90 countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Its revenue largely comes from sales of low-cost contraceptives. In 2021, DKT sold 901 million condoms, 111 million cycles of oral contraceptives, 26.5 million injectable contraceptives, 20 million emergency contraceptives and 4.7 million intrauterine devices (IUDs), among other products, in 59 countries. Conservation International (CI) is an American nonprofit environmental organization headquartered in Crystal City, Arlington, Virginia. CI's work focuses on science, policy and partnership with businesses, governments and communities. Christian Blind Mission International
CBM (formerly Christian Blind Mission) is an international Christian development organization, committed to improving the quality of life of people with disabilities in the poorest communities of the world. It is considered one of the world's oldest and largest organizations working in this field. CBM was founded in 1908 by the German pastor Ernst Jakob Christoffel, who built homes for blind children, orphans, physically disabled, and deaf persons in Turkey and Iran. The China Youth Development Foundation (CYDF) is a national non-profit and non-governmental organization founded in March 1989 in Beijing. The CYDF works to develop Chinese youth through education, science and technology, culture, physical education, health, and environmental protection. China Foundation For Poverty Alleviation
China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation (CFPA) () is a nongovernmental charitable organization in Beijing, China, registered under the Chinese Ministry of Civil Affairs in 1989 and professionally supervised by the State Council Leading Group Office of Poverty Alleviation and Development. In 2017, CFPA raised poverty alleviation funds and materials totaling RMB 580 million (about US$91 million) to deliver aid and assistance in over 4.2 million individual cases for impoverished persons and disaster victims. To date CFPA has raised total funds and materials worth RMB 34 billion (est. USD 5.7 billion) and delivered aid and assistance in 33 million individual cases. China Care Foundation
China Care Foundation is a nonprofit organization that provides medical, social and educational programs for orphans with disabilities in China and gives college and high school students the opportunity to give back by fundraising and volunteering. History China Care Foundation was founded by Matt Dalio in 2000 when he was 16 years old. Dalio, who grew up in Connecticut, spent a year in China when he was 11 years old and returned five years later to personally witness the conditions of orphans with special needs. Children in Crisis is a non-profit organization aimed at improving the lives of children and women from underprivileged backgrounds in third-world countries. It is headquartered in London, England. Chi Heng Foundation
The Chi Heng Foundation (CHF) is a Hong Kong-based non-governmental organisation dedicated to addressing children impacted by AIDS and also to AIDS prevention and education. Established in 1998, the NGO has offices in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Anhui and, especially, Henan. The organisation attracted notice in China in 2004 when it helped Shanghai's Fudan University organise a graduate level class on the subject of homosexuality, the first such class in the country. __TOC__ Mission The organisation provides assistance to children who have a parent with HIV/AIDS or have lost a parent to AIDS since 2002 or who are themselves infected.
