List Of NCAA Major College Football Yearly Rushing Leaders
The list of college football yearly rushing leaders identifies the major college rushing leaders for each season from 1937 to the present. It includes yearly leaders in three statistical categories: (1) rushing yardage; (2) yards per carry; and (3) rushing touchdowns. Overview Seven players since 1937 have led the country in rushing yardage in multiple seasons. They are Ricky Williams of Texas (1997–1998), Troy Davis of Iowa State (1995–1996), Charles White of USC (1978–1979), O. J. Simpson of USC (1967–1968), Preacher Pilot of New Mexico State (1961–1962), Art Luppino of Arizona (1954–1955), and Rudy Mobley of Hardin-Simmons (1942, 1946). Barry Sanders
Barry Sanders (born July 16, 1968) is an American former professional football player who was a running back in the National Football League (NFL), from 1989 to 1998 for the Detroit Lions. Sanders led the league in rushing yards four times and in rushing touchdowns once, establishing himself as one of the most elusive runners in the history of the NFL with his quickness and agility, despite being only 5 ft 8 in tall and weighing 203 lbs. Clendon Thomas
Clendon Thomas (born December 28, 1935) is a former American football halfback and Defensive back who played 11 seasons in the National Football League (NFL). In college, he was a star athlete for the Oklahoma Sooners under coach Bud Wilkinson. He led the Sooners in scoring during both the 1956 and 1957 seasons, while also leading the nation in the category during the 1956 season. He helped lead the Sooners to back-to-back national championships in 1955 and 1956. He was an All-Conference selection his junior and senior years and was a consensus All-American his senior year. He also finished in ninth place in the Heisman Trophy balloting that season (the award was won by John David Crow that year). Gregory Donald Pruitt (born August 18, 1951) is a former American football running back in the National Football League (NFL) from 1973 through 1984. He was selected to five Pro Bowls, four as a member of the Cleveland Browns and one as a member of the Los Angeles Raiders, the last one as a kick returner. He was also part of the Raiders' Super Bowl XVIII winning team, beating the Washington Redskins. Kenneth Leon King (born March 7, 1957) is an American former professional football player who was a running back for seven seasons in the National Football League (NFL), mainly with the Oakland/Los Angeles Raiders. Billy Ray Sims (born September 18, 1955) is a former American college and professional football player who was a running back in the National Football League (NFL) for five seasons during the 1980s.
