Ambrose O'Brien
John Ambrose O'Brien (May 27, 1885 – April 24, 1968) was a Canadian industrialist and sports team owner. He was a founder of the National Hockey Association (NHA), owner of the Renfrew Millionaires and the founding owner of the Montreal Canadiens professional ice hockey team. Biography Born in Renfrew, Ontario, O'Brien played varsity hockey at the University of Toronto, then later founded two northern Ontario hockey clubs, in Cobalt, Ontario and Haileybury, Ontario. In 1909, he founded the National Hockey Association, Les Canadiens, later Montreal Canadiens, and bought the Renfrew Creamery Kings. In the 1909–10 NHA season, the Creamery Kings received the nickname "Millionaires" as O'Brien signed up several stars of the time to extravagant contracts, including Fred "Cyclone" Taylor and brothers Frank Patrick and Lester "the Silver Fox" Patrick, and acquired Edouard "Newsy" Lalonde in an attempt to win the Stanley Cup for Renfrew. George Kennedy (sports Promoter)
George Washington Kendall (December 29, 1881 – October 19, 1921), known professionally as George Kennedy, was a Canadian sports promoter best known as the owner of the Montreal Canadiens ice hockey team from 1910 to 1921. Kennedy was a wrestler himself and after the end of his wrestling career turned to wrestling promotion. Kendall along with other investors, formed the Club Athletique Canadien, and promoted wrestling, boxing, hockey and other sports. He would contract the Spanish flu during the pandemic of the late 1910s and never fully recovered from it, causing him to eventually succumb to complications from the illness in 1921, after the pandemic ended. Ernest Savard
J. S. Ernest Savard (April 17, 1896 – March 12, 1971) was a Canadian businessman. He was a stockbroker and a partner at the brokerage firm of Savard & Hart in Montreal, Quebec. He was also an owner of the Montreal Canadiens and Montreal Royals sports teams. Biography A sports fan, in 1928 Savard partnered with fellow Montreal businessman and politician, Athanase David, and American baseball executive, George Stallings, to revive the Montreal Royals baseball franchise as part of the International League and to build Delorimier Stadium. Savard then bought the Montreal Canadiens hockey franchise, with co-owners Maurice Forget and Louis Gelinas, for $165,000 in September 1935. Savard succeeded Athanase David as President of the Montreal Canadiens ice hockey club. He also served as general manager for one season. Donat Raymond
Joseph Donat Raymond (January 3, 1880 – June 5, 1963) was a Canadian Senator and builder in the National Hockey League. Biography Born in Saint-Stanislas-de-Kostka, Quebec, Donat Raymond was a member of the Canadian Senate as a Liberal Party from 1926 to 1963. He was also head of the Canadian Arena Company that helped designed arenas throughout Canada. One of the major arenas he re-built was the Montreal Forum in 1968. One of his final acts was to approve the financing and plans of the arena before he died. He won the Stanley Cup seven times, twice with the Montreal Maroons in 1926 and 1935, and five times with Montreal Canadiens in 1944, 1946, 1953, 1956 and 1957. Hartland de Montarville Molson, (May 29, 1907 – September 28, 2002) was an Anglo-Quebecer statesman, Canadian senator, military aviator, and a member of the Molson family of brewers. Education Born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada to a wealthy brewing family (father was Colonel Herbert Molson), Hartland Molson was educated at Selwyn House School in Montreal, Bishop's College School in Lennoxville, Quebec and Charterhouse School in England before attending the Royal Military College of Canada at Kingston, Ontario arriving in 1924, there he played ice hockey for the Kingston Juniors team that made it to the 1926 Memorial Cup finals. An all-around athlete, Molson also played first string football, made it to the college's boxing finals twice, and was a member of the track and field team. Edmond Jacques Courtois, (4 July 1920 – 3 July 1996) was a Canadian lawyer and public official. Courtois was appointed chair of the Security Intelligence Review Committee on December 23, 1992, the third person ever to chair the body responsible for oversight of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service. Courtois was born in Montreal. During World War II, he served with the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve and called to the Quebec bar in 1946. He practised law with the firm of MacDougall, MacFarlane, Scott & Hugessen, which later became Courtois, Clarkson, Parsons & Tétreault, until 1982. Following his retirement from his law firm, he served on several board including as chair of the educational publishers McGraw-Hill Ryerson. Morgan McCammon
Morgan McCammon (September 20, 1922 – November 20, 1999) was a Canadian lawyer and businessman. Born in Montreal, Quebec, McCammon started studying at McGill University in 1940. He did not complete his education, instead joining the Canadian Army during World War II with the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry. After the war, he continued his education, receiving a law degree in 1949. He worked for four years as a lawyer with the law firm of Brais-Campbell before joining Steinberg's real-estate business in 1953. He joined Molson Breweries in 1958, eventually becoming president and chairman. In the summer of 1978, McCammon joined the Montreal Canadiens. McCammon's name was engraved on the Stanley Cup as a director in 1979. Ronald Corey, (born 13 December 1938) is a Canadian businessman and former professional ice hockey executive with the Montreal Canadiens of the National Hockey League (NHL). In 1991, he was made a Member of the Order of Canada. Businessman As of 2012, Corey serves as director of Transamerica Life Companies, Schiff Nutrition International Inc. and The Canadian Museum for Human Rights. Pierre Boivin, OC (born October 28, 1953) is a French Canadian businessman and was president of the Montreal Canadiens from September 2, 1999, through June 30, 2011, succeeding Ronald Corey. Business At the age of 25, Boivin founded Norvinca Sports. It would become the largest sporting goods distributor in Canada.
