Mauricie
Mauricie () is a traditional and current administrative region of Quebec. La Mauricie National Park is contained within the region, making it a prime tourist location. The region has a land area of 35,860.05 km² (13,845.64 sq mi) and a population of 266,112 residents as of the 2016 Census. Its largest cities are Trois-Rivières and Shawinigan. The word ''Mauricie'' was coined by local priest and historian Albert Tessier and is based on the Saint-Maurice river which runs through the region on a North-South axis. Mauricie administrative region was created on August 20, 1997 from the split of Mauricie–Bois-Francs administrative region into Mauricie and Centre-du-Québec. However, the concept of Mauricie as a traditional region long predates this. Sylvain Cossette (born May 8, 1963) is a French-Canadian singer from Grand-Mère, Quebec (located in the Mauricie region). He was a founding member of the Quebec-based English-language band Paradox in 1984 before becoming a French-language solo artist by 1994. Career During his career he has sold over one million albums (12 Gold and Platinum), recorded thirty-two No. 1 hit songs and eight Number 1 albums, earned six Silver, Gold and Platinum Tickets, won 10 Quebec Felix Music Awards, six Socan awards and four Juno nominations, and performed in Canada and Europe in the hit stage musicals ''Notre Dame De Paris'' and ''Dracula''. Josaphat Groleau (born September 11, 1893 in Saint-Tite, Quebec, Canada - Death January 11, 1993 in Sainte-Thècle) was a Quebec businessman (Canada), a mayor, county prefect and president of the School Board of the village of Sainte-Thècle. His first marriage was celebrated on April 16, 1918 in the church of Sainte-Thècle to Rose-Blanche Gervais. This couple has fifteen children baptized in Sainte-Thècle. The family lived in the house of 270 rue Saint-Jacques, in the village of Sainte-Thècle. This house has become a retirement residence "Résidence Josaphat Groleau enr." and the "Auberge Josaphat Groleau enr.". Yanni Gourde
Yanni Gourde (born December 15, 1991) is a Canadian professional ice hockey forward and alternate captain for the Seattle Kraken of the National Hockey League (NHL). An undrafted player, Gourde signed with the Tampa Bay Lightning as a free agent in 2014. Gourde won back-to-back Stanley Cups with the Lightning in 2020 and 2021. Playing career Youth As a youth, Gourde played in the 2003, 2004 and 2005 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournaments with a minor ice hockey team from south shore of Quebec City. Gérald Godin
Gérald Godin (November 13, 1938 – October 12, 1994) was a Quebec poet and politician. Born in Trois-Rivières, Quebec, he worked as a journalist at '' La Presse'' and other newspapers and magazines. His most important poetry collection, ''Les cantouques: poèmes en langue verte, populaire et quelquefois française'', was published in 1967. He was among those arrested under the War Measures Act during the October Crisis in 1970. In the 1976 Quebec provincial election, he won a seat as a candidate for the Parti Québécois, heavily defeating incumbent Premier Robert Bourassa in his own riding of Mercier. He served in various cabinet posts in the governments of René Lévesque and Pierre-Marc Johnson. His life companion was the Québécois singer Pauline Julien. Antoine Gérin-Lajoie
Antoine Gérin-Lajoie (; August 4, 1824 – August 7, 1882) was a Québécois Canadian attorney, poet and novelist. He was the author of the famous poem "Un Canadien errant" ('A Wandering Canadian'), as well as the novels roman du terroir ''Jean Rivard, le défricheur'' (1874) and its sequel, ''Jean Rivard, économiste'' (1876), among other works. He was the father of sociologist Léon Gérin. Martin Gélinas (; born June 5, 1970) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey forward who played 1,273 games in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Edmonton Oilers, Quebec Nordiques, Vancouver Canucks, Carolina Hurricanes, Calgary Flames, Florida Panthers and Nashville Predators. A first round selection of the Los Angeles Kings at the 1988 NHL Entry Draft, Gélinas was sent to the Oilers as part of the 1988 Wayne Gretzky trade before ever playing a game for the Kings. Gratien G̩linas, (December 8, 1909 РMarch 16, 1999) was a Canadian writer, playwright, actor, director, producer and administrator who is considered one of the founders of modern Canadian theatre and film. His major works include ''Tit-Coq'' (1948), ''Bousille et les Justes'' (1959), and ''Hier, les enfants dansaient'' (1968). He also wrote a series of satirical revues known as the ''Fridolinades''. The ''Fridolinades'' revues, consisting of comic sketches, songs, and monologues, were named for the often-featured character Fridolin. A poor boy from Montreal, he wore a tri-colour Canadiens hockey jersey, knee socks, and suspenders. Marcelle Ferron, (January 29, 1924 – November 19, 2001), a Canadian '' Québécoise'' painter and stained glass artist, was one of the original 16 signatories of Paul-Émile Borduas's Refus global manifesto, and a major figure in the Quebec contemporary art scene, associated with the Automatistes. Early years Ferron was born in Louiseville, Quebec on January 29, 1924. Her brother Jacques Ferron and her sister Madeleine Ferron were both writers. She studied at the École des beaux-arts de Québec before dropping out, unsatisfied with the way the school's instructors addressed modern art. Madeleine Ferron (July 24, 1922 РFebruary 27, 2010) was a Canadian writer. Biography She was born in Louiseville, Quebec. She began her early studies with the Sisters of Saint Anne, continuing at the Universit̩ de Montr̩al and Universit̩ Laval. She married Robert Cliche, a lawyer, in 1945. A writer and novelist, she also worked as a government commissioner and radio show host. She wrote for several magazines, notably ''Ch̢telaine'' and ''L'actualit̩''. Maurice Le Noblet Duplessis (; April 20, 1890 – September 7, 1959), was a Canadian lawyer and politician who served as the 16th premier of Quebec. A conservative, nationalist, anti-Communist, anti-unionist and fervent Catholic, he and his party, the Union Nationale'','' dominated provincial politics from the 1930s to the 1950s. Son of Nérée Duplessis, a lawyer who was serving at the time as a Conservative member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA), Maurice studied law in Montreal and became a member of the Bar of Quebec in 1913. He then returned to his home town to practice law, where he founded a successful consultancy.
