This is the list of ''Masterpiece Contemporary'' episodes in order by season. Episodes In early 2008, ''Masterpiece Theatre'' and its affiliated program ''Mystery!'' were reformatted as ''Masterpiece''. ''Masterpiece'' is aired as three different series. Initially, ''Masterpiece Classic'' aired in the winter and early spring, ''Masterpiece Mystery!'' in the late spring and summer, and ''Masterpiece Contemporary'' in the fall. In later seasons, particularly after an increase in funding for WGBH and Masterpiece, the scheduling became more random. Currently, all three programs air at any time throughout the year, and on nearly half the Sundays, two episodes from two different miniseries will air on the same night. This lists the titles of the individual miniseries. Some ran for only one episode, many ran for two or more installments. Mystery!
''Mystery!'' (also written ''MYSTERY!'') is a television anthology series produced by WGBH Boston for PBS in the United States. The series was created as a mystery, police and crime drama spin-off of the already established PBS show ''Masterpiece Theatre''. From 1980 to 2006, ''Mystery!'' aired mostly British crime series purchased from or co-produced with the BBC or ITV and adapted from British mystery fiction. In 2002, due to pressure to include more American material, a series based on the novels of US mystery writer Tony Hillerman was produced, but the vast majority of ''Mystery!'' programming has always been and continues to be British literary adaptations co-produced with UK-based production companies. ''A Place of Execution'' is a crime novel by Val McDermid, first published in 1999. The novel won the ''Los Angeles Times'' Book Prize, the 2001 Dilys Award, was shortlisted for both the Gold Dagger and the Edgar Award, and was chosen by ''The New York Times'' as one of the most notable books of the year. Plot The novel has two parallel storylines; the first, set in 1963, follows Detective Inspector George Bennett, who attempts to locate a missing girl in Derbyshire. The second, set in the present day, follows journalist Catherine Heathcote, whose plans to publish a story of the investigation are derailed when Bennett inexplicably stops cooperating and she attempts to find out why. ''The Song of Lunch'' is a British 2010 television adaptation of Christopher Reid's poem of the same name. It was directed by Niall MacCormick and stars Alan Rickman and Emma Thompson.
