Marathi cinema is an Indian film industry of Marathi-language motion pictures. It is based in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Based in old Mumbai, it is the oldest film industry of Indian cinema. The first Marathi film to be released in India was ''Shree Pundalik'' by Dadasaheb Torne on 18 May 1912 at Coronation Cinematograph, Mumbai. and a Marathi crew who were performing Marathi and Sanskrit (musicals) and plays in Marathi at that period. The first Marathi talkie film, ''Ayodhyecha Raja'', was released in 1932, just one year after ''Alam Ara'' the first Hindi talkie. Ashalata Wabgaonkar
Ashalata Wabgaonkar (2 July 1941 – 22 September 2020) commonly known as Ashalata, was an Indian actress. Originally tracing her roots to Goa's Palolem village in Canacona ''taluka'' (or 'sub-district'), she was associated with the Mumbai-based Goa Hindu Association. She acted in over a hundred Hindi and Marathi movies. She also sang some Konkani songs broadcast over the Mumbai station of the All India Radio. Konkani, Marathi, Hindi Goa-born Ashalata was also famous as a Marathi singer, playwright besides being a film actress. Archana Joglekar is an Indian actress and classical dancer. She has acted in Marathi, Odia and Hindi films and television serials. Some of her noted films are ''Sansaar'' (Hindi), ''Eka Peksha Ek'' (Marathi) and ''Anapekshit'' (Marathi). She is a Kathak dancer and choreographer. She was trained in Kathak by her mother, Asha Joglekar, a Kathak danseuse and instructor. In 1963, her mother founded a dance school in Mumbai called ''Archana Nrityalaya''.
