Utheemu Dynasty
The Utheemu dynasty was created in 1573 when Muhammad Thakurufaanu Al Auzam became sultan of the Maldives. The dynasty was named after the northern Maldives island of Utheemu, birthplace of Muhammad Thakurufaan. Muhammad Thakurufaan is considered a national hero, as he and his two brothers led a successful rebellion against the Portuguese and established his country's independence. Thirteen more sultans ruled during this dynastic period, which ended in 1697. From 1602 to 1607, a French sailor, François Pyrard de Laval François Pyrard de Laval (; 1578 – ca. 1623) was a French navigator who is remembered for a personal written account of his adventures in the Maldives Islands from 1602 to 1607, which was part of a ten-year sojourn (1601–1611) in South Asia, ..., spent time in the Maldives and gave a detailed account of the customs of the islanders during the Utheemu dynasty. House Of Theemuge
Theemuge dynasty ( Maldivian: ތީމު ދަރިކޮޅު) or Homa Dharikolhu ( Maldivian: ހޯމަ ދަރިކޮޅު) was one of the early dynasties of the Maldives that reigned from c.1117 (or earlier) until c.1388. History According to the record in the ''Isdhoo'' ( Maldivian: ލޯމާ ފާނު; ''copper plates''), which was written in 1194, the first king of the Theemuge dynasty extended his rule to cover the entire Maldives. The writing suggests that the king united the entire country under his rule, bringing to an end a number of fiefdoms throughout the country. The first king of the Theemuge dynasty is known as Siri Mahabarana and he is believed to be Koimala Kalo. Sri Mahabarana was proclaimed king in the year 1117 or 1118. Other sources suggest that the Theemuge Dharikolhu was the new name of the Soma Vansa Lunar Dynastry after the conversion to Islam of King Dhovemi which lasted from c.1153 to c.1388. In this case King Dhovemi, the fifth king of the Lunar Dynastry b ...

Hilaalee Dynasty
Hilaalee dynasty was one of the earlier Muslim (later christian) ruling-dynasties of the history of the Maldives. It ruled the country from 1388 to 1573. It came under Portuguese power in 1558 and disestablished in 1573 after the Utheemu rebellion against the Portuguese presence. After the disestablishment, an interregnum period started in the history of the Maldives. History The first king of the Maldivian Hilaalee dynasty was Hassan I of the Maldives and he was proclaimed king in the year 1388 AD. Hilaalee dynasty in the oldest records were presumably from Somali descendants. Some historical documents reveal that Hilali Kalo Hassan dethroned King Uthman Rasgefaan, who was the ruling King at that time and outcast him and all his ministers. After this Hilai Kalo Hassan started the Hilai Dynasty. See also *List of Sultans of the Maldives *List of Sunni Muslim dynasties The following is a list of Sunni Muslim dynasties. The Dhiyamigili dynasty was the fifth royal dynasty to rule over the Maldives. Ibrahim Fauzee
Ibrahim Fauzee is a citizen of the Maldives, who was held in extrajudicial detention in the United States's Guantanamo Bay detention camps, in Cuba. His Guantanamo Internment Serial Number was 730. Intelligence analysts estimate he was born on 11 November 1978, in Thulhaadhoo in Baa Atoll, Maldives. Combatant Status Review Tribunal Initially, the George W Bush administration asserted that they could withhold all the protections of the Geneva Conventions to captives from the war on terror. This policy was challenged before the judicial branch. Critics argued that the US could not evade its obligation to conduct competent tribunals to determine whether captives are, or are not, entitled to the protections of prisoner of war status. Subsequently, the Department of Defense instituted the Combatant Status Review Tribunals. These tribunals, however, were not authorized to determine whether the captives were "lawful combatants" - rather, they were merely empowered to ...
