Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference
The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC, ) is a collegiate athletic conference affiliated with NCAA Division I. Of its current 11 full members, 10 are located in three states of the northeastern United States: Connecticut, New Jersey, and New York. The other member is in Maryland. Members are all relatively small private institutions, a majority Catholic or formerly Catholic, with the only exceptions being two secular institutions: Rider University and Quinnipiac University. The MAAC currently sponsors 25 sports and has 17 associate member institutions. History The conference was founded in 1980 by six charter members: the U.S. Military Academy, Fairfield University, Fordham University, Iona College, Manhattan College, and Saint Peter's College. The Quinnipiac Bobcats men's ice hockey team is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I college ice hockey program that represents Quinnipiac University. The Bobcats are a member of ECAC Hockey. They play at the M&T Bank Arena in Hamden, Connecticut. History Quinnipiac College began sponsoring men's ice hockey as a varsity sport for the 1975–76 season. The program began as an independent team before joining ECAC 3 the following year. The program remained with the third-tier conference for over 20 years despite being a Division II school for much of that time. The Braves left ECAC 3 in 1997 and spent a year as a D-II independent before moving up to Division I as part of the university's transition to the top level. Holy Cross Crusaders Men's Ice Hockey
The Holy Cross Crusaders men's ice hockey team is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I college ice hockey program that represents the College of the Holy Cross. The Crusaders are a member of the Atlantic Hockey Association (AHA). They play at the Hart Center in Worcester, Massachusetts. History Holy Cross men's ice hockey began in 1966 and a year later it joined ECAC 2. The Crusaders played in the second tier of college ice hockey for ten years before they played their first playoff game, but once they made it they didn't go very far. Over a six year period Holy Cross wen 2–5 in the conference postseason and never really got close to an NCAA tournament berth. When Division II ice hockey was abandoned in 1984 Holy Cross dropped down to Division III and was placed in ECAC East when ECAC 2 split. Winger, in the game of ice hockey, is a forward position of a player whose primary zone of play is along the outer playing areas. They typically flank the centre forward. Originally the name was given to forward players who went up and down the sides of the rink. Wingers generally have the least defensive responsibilities out of any position on the ice, however they are still tasked with defensive duties such as forechecking duties or covering the point in the defensive zone. Nowadays, there are different types of wingers in the game — out-and-out goal scorers, checkers who disrupt the opponents, and forwards who work along the boards and in the corners. Patrick Rissmiller
Patrick Rissmiller (born October 26, 1978) is an American former professional ice hockey winger (ice hockey), winger who played in the National Hockey League for the San Jose Sharks, New York Rangers, Atlanta Thrashers, and the Florida Panthers. He joined the Anaheim Ducks as a scout for the 2022-23 season after seven years as a development coach for the New Jersey Devils. Early years Rissmiller was born in Boston and grew up in Belmont, Massachusetts. He is the fourth of eight children of David and Patricia Rissmiller. He attended Belmont High School (where he was cut from the varsity hockey team), but transferred to Williston Northampton School. He completed a post-graduate year at The Hill School before attending Holy Cross. Playing career Amateur Rissmiller played at the College of the Holy Cross of the NCAA. Ryan Manitowich
Ryan Manitowich (born July 5, 1978) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player. He won 2009 Allan Cup with the Bentley Generals and won the 2010 Allan Cup with the Fort St. John Flyers. Manitowich attended Iona College in New Rochelle, New York, where he played four seasons (1999–2003) of NCAA Division I hockey with the Iona Gaels. Manitowich went on to play three seasons of professional hockey with the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs of the Central Hockey League (CHL), concluding his CHL career with the 2005–06 season having played a total of 164 regular season games and another 39 playoff games, all with the Mudbugs. Ice Hockey
Ice hockey (or simply hockey) is a team sport played on ice skates, usually on an ice skating rink with lines and markings specific to the sport. It belongs to a family of sports called hockey.
