'' Line of Duty'' is a British BBC police procedural television series created by Jed Mercurio. Initially, broadcast began on BBC Two, starting on 26 June 2012. The fourth series broadcast began on 26 March 2017 on BBC One. The stories feature the Anti-Corruption Unit 12 (AC-12) led by Superintendent Ted Hastings (Adrian Dunbar). ''Line of Duty'' is a British police procedural television series created by Jed Mercurio and produced by World Productions. On 26 June 2012, BBC Two began to broadcast the first series; it was its best-performing drama series in ten years with a consolidated audience of 4.1 million viewers. Broadcast of the second series began on 12 February 2014; its widespread public and critical acclaim led to the BBC commissioning a further two series. The third series began on 24 March 2016 on BBC Two; the following three series were broadcast on BBC One. In May 2017, the BBC commissioned a sixth series. Filming began in February 2020 but stopped the following month due to the COVID-19 pandemic; it resumed in September. Filming continued until November 2020. Gerald Gary "Jed" Mercurio (born September 1966) is a British television writer, producer, director and novelist. A former hospital doctor and Royal Air Force officer, Mercurio has been ranked among UK television's leading writers. In 2017, Mercurio was awarded a Fellowship of the Royal Television Society and the Baird Medal by RTS Midlands. His works for television include the series ''Line of Duty'', ''Bodyguard'', ''Bodies'' (based on his 2002 novel), ''The Grimleys'', and ''Cardiac Arrest''. His books are ''Bodies'' (2002), ''Ascent'' (2007), '' American Adulterer'' (2009) and, for children, ''The Penguin Expedition'' (2003). The Broadcasters Audience Research Board (BARB) is a British organisation that compiles audience measurement and television ratings in the United Kingdom. It was created in 1981 to replace two previous systems whereby ITV ratings were compiled by JICTAR (Joint Industry Committee for Television Audience Research), whilst the BBC did their own audience research.
