Arab Argentine
Arab Argentine refers to Argentine citizens or residents whose ancestry traces back to various waves of immigrants, largely of Arab ethnic, cultural and linguistic heritage and/or identity originating mainly from what is now Lebanon and Syria, but also some individuals from the twenty-two countries which comprise the Arab world such as Palestine, Egypt and Morocco. Arab Argentines are one of the largest Arab diaspora groups in the world. Although a highly diverse group of Argentines — in ancestral origins, religion and historic identities — Arab Argentines hold a common identity in the Argentinian consciousness, being universally known as ''"turcos"'' ("Turks"), like in the rest of Latin American countries. Juan Luis Manzur
Juan Luis Manzur (born 8 January 1969) is an Argentine surgeon and politician. A member of the Justicialist Party, he currently serves as Chief of the Cabinet of Ministers, under President Alberto Fernández. He previously served as Minister of Health of Argentina from 2009 to 2015, and as Governor of Tucumán Province from 2015 to 2021. Early life and education Manzur was born in San Miguel de Tucumán to a Maronite Catholic father from Lebanon and an Argentine mother. He received a medical degree from the University of Tucumán and completed his residency at the public Álvarez Hospital, in Buenos Aires. Julio Asad
Julio Daniel Asad (; born 7 June 1953) is an Argentine former football player and manager. He played as a midfielder, and participated with Argentina in the 1975 Copa América. Asad was nicknamed "El Turco" due to his Syrian and Lebanese ethnicity. In Argentina, Arabs were mistakenly called Turks, since they came to Argentina with Ottoman Turkish documents in the 1900s. Sor Lucía Caram Padilla (born 21 October 1966) is a Dominican Order nun, chef, writer, and presenter. She is Argentine, and currently resides in Spain. Biography Lucía Caram was born in Tucumán, the fifth of seven siblings, to a family of Lebanese descent. She was educated at a religious school. During the dictatorship in Argentina from 1976 to 1983, Tucumán was punished by military repression, and she says that "it was then when heencountered people's suffering and the question of why there is violence. San Martín De Los Andes
San Martín de los Andes is a city in the south-west of the , serving as the administration centre of the Lácar Department. Lying at the foot of the Andes, on the Lácar lake, it is considered one of the main tourism destinations in the province. The National Route 40 runs to the city, connecting it with important touristic points in the south of the province, such as Lanín and Nahuel Huapí national parks. Luz María Sapag (15 June 1944 – 7 July 2010) was an Argentine politician, Mayor of the city of San Martín de los Andes and formerly a Senator representing the Neuquén Province under the aegis of the Neuquino People's Movement. Sapag was born in Cutral Có, Neuquén. She was a member of the influential Arab Argentine Sapag family – daughter of Elías Sapag, a senator; niece of Felipe Sapag, five-time governor of Neuquén; and sister to Jorge Sapag, governor of Neuquén from 2007. Felipe Sapag (February 14, 1917 – March 14, 2010) was an Argentine politician, governor of Neuquén Province on five occasions and a leading figure in the Neuquén People's Movement and the locally influential Sapag family. Life and times Sapag was born in Zapala to Lebanese immigrants who had moved to Neuquén in 1913. His elder brother was Elías Sapag, later a senator, and their younger brothers were Amado and José. Neuquén () is a province of Argentina, located in the west of the country, at the northern end of Patagonia. Elías Canaán Sapag ( Arabic: إلياس كنعان صباغ) (August 5, 1911 – June 21, 1993) was a Lebanese-born Argentine politician, long-serving senator for Neuquén Province, founder of the Neuquén People's Movement and head of the locally influential Sapag family. Sapag was born in Mayrouba, in the Keserwan District, Lebanon, and emigrated with his parents to Argentina in 1913. They arrived in Covunco, Neuquén, where his grandfather had already set up home, and moved on to Zapala. His parents had several more children, including his brothers Felipe, Amado and José. Alma Liniana "Chani" Sapag (born 2 October 1952) is an Argentine politician who served as a member of the Argentine Chamber of Deputies elected in Neuquén Province from 2017 to 2021.
