This is a list of Latter Day Saints who have attained levels of notability. This list includes adherents of all Latter Day Saint movement denominations, including the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church), Community of Christ, and others. Members of the LDS Church are usually considered either "active", meaning they attend church on a regular basis and are committed to living their religion, or "less active" or "inactive", meaning they do not attend church regularly and/or they do not adhere to its principles. Latter Day Saints
The Latter Day Saint movement (also called the LDS movement, LDS restorationist movement, or Smith–Rigdon movement) is the collection of independent church groups that trace their origins to a Christian Restorationist movement founded by Joseph Smith in the late 1820s. Collectively, these churches have over 16 million members, although about 98% belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). The predominant theology of the churches in the movement is Mormonism, which sees itself as restoring the early Christian church with additional Revelation (Latter Day Saints), revelations. The ''Deseret News'' () is the oldest continuously operating publication in the American west. Its multi-platform products feature journalism and commentary across the fields of politics, culture, family life, faith, sports, and entertainment. The ''Deseret News'' is based in Salt Lake City, Utah and is published by Deseret News Publishing Company, a subsidiary of Deseret Management Corporation, which is owned by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The publication's name is from the geographic area of Deseret identified by Utah's pioneer settlers, and much of the publication's reporting is rooted in that region. Rei Hamon
Francis Rei Paul Hamon (17 December 1919 – 16 August 2008) was a New Zealand landscape artist. In 1976, his lithograph ''Jewels of Okarito'' was presented to Queen Elizabeth II by the New Zealand Government on the occasion of a state visit. Hamon was born in 1919 the son of a white mother and a part-Maori father and grew up in Gisborne, New Zealand. Career Utilizing a self-taught style of pointillism, Hamon's familiarity with the flora and fauna of the bush grew from the time that he worked splitting posts for sheep pens in the forests of the Urewera area. Hamon was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire, for services to art, in the 1981 New Year Honours. In 2010, a documentary on Hamon premiered, ''Rei Hamon: Man of Nature''. Ben Hammond (born 1977) is an American sculptor and painter. John Hafen
John Hafen (March 22, 1856 – June 3, 1910) was a Swiss-born American artist, primarily of landscapes and portraits. As a child, Hafen immigrated to the United States from Switzerland and settled in Utah. There, he demonstrated artistic abilities from an early age. In 1890, he was one of a group of "art missionaries" who studied at the Académie Julian in Paris under the sponsorship of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church), in preparation for painting murals at the nearly completed Salt Lake Temple. After returning home, Hafen painted landscapes of rural Utah and portraits of LDS General Authorities. He suffered intense financial difficulty throughout his life and did not receive much recognition as an artist until a few years before his death. He has been named "Utah's greatest artist" by Alice Merrill Horne and "is now considered the most appealing of the early Utah stylists." The University of Utah (U of U, UofU, or simply The U) is a public research university in Salt Lake City, Utah. It is the flagship institution of the Utah System of Higher Education. Alvin Gittens
Alvin L. Gittins (17 January 1922 – 7 March 1981) was an English-born artist who was a professor at the University of Utah. He has been described as "one of he United Statesgreatest portrait artists ever". Life and career Gittins was born in Kidderminster, Worcestershire, England. He attended art school in London. Gittins was raised in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in England. He first came to the United States in 1946 and graduated from Brigham Young University in 1947. He was appointed a member of the University of Utah art faculty in 1947. From 1956 to 1962 Gittins was head of the University of Utah art department. Gittins painted 89 portraits of people connected with the University of Utah and at least one of his portraits hangs in almost every campus building. Erasmo Fuentes
Erasmo Fuentes de Hoyos (born 1943) is a Mexican-born member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and sculptor who resides in Mapleton, Utah. Among his more well known works is "Anxiously Engaged" (made with his son Alex Fuentes) which is a sculpture of Mormon missionaries on bikes; the sculpture is displayed at the Missionary Training Center in Provo, Utah. Fuentes was born in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico, but was raised in Saltillo, Mexico as a Latter-day Saint. He first came to the United States to work in 1964 and studied sculpture at Brigham Young University, graduating in 1968. He also was on the BYU Ballroom Dance Company, which was founded by his uncle, Benjamin F. de Hoyos. Fuentes studied particularly under Dallas Anderson. Fuentes had first trained in modeling in the taxidermy shop of his father, Arturo Fuentes. Arnold Friberg
Arnold Friberg (December 21, 1913 – July 1, 2010) was an American illustrator and painter noted for his religious and patriotic works. He is perhaps best known for his 1975 painting ''The Prayer at Valley Forge'', a depiction of George Washington praying at Valley Forge. He is also well known for his 15 "pre-visualization" paintings for the Cecil B. DeMille film ''The Ten Commandments'' which were used to promote the film worldwide and for which he received an Academy Award nomination. He has been admitted as a lifetime member of the Royal Society of Arts. Lynn Fausett
Lynn Fausett February 27, 1894 – August 27, 1977) was an American painter. He attended and later became president of the Art Students League in New York City. He painted murals in the Nebraska State Capitol and St. Bartholomew's Church. Fausett is also the muralist of ''The First Meeting of the Primary Association'' depicting the establishment of the Primary Association in the Farmington Rock Chapel for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church).
