Northern Limit Line (film)
''Northern Limit Line'' () is a 2015 South Korean naval thriller film written and directed by Kim Hak-soon, based on the real-life events of the Second Battle of Yeonpyeong. It stars Kim Mu-yeol, Jin Goo, and Lee Hyun-woo. Plot Corporal Park Dong-hyuk is a newly enlisted sailor in the Republic of Korea Navy assigned to the patrol vessel ''PKM 357''. In the midst of the 2002 FIFA World Cup taking place in South Korea, North Korea deploys fishing trawlers with spies to cross the Northern Limit Line (the demarcation line at sea). ''PKM 357'' seizes the trawlers and their men, which allows the spies to familiarise themselves with the ship's superstructure. The North Koreans are eventually released upon orders by the South Korean high command, as part of the government's Sunshine Policy. ''Submarine Command'' is a 1951 American war film directed by John Farrow and starring William Holden, Don Taylor, Nancy Olson, William Bendix, and Darryl Hickman. It is notable for being one of the first films to touch on post traumatic stress disorder. Holden invested $20,000 of his own money into the film. The film received a mixed reception: it was panned by some critics for its brooding melodrama whilst being praised by others. Plot During the Pacific War, Lieutenant Commander Ken White orders the submarine USS ''Tiger Shark'' to crash dive to evade a Japanese aerial attack. George Breakston wrote the film's script and co-produced it with Dorrell McGowan jointly under the banner of their newly formed Breakston–McGowan Productions and Japanese . Californian lawyer Melvin Belli executive-produced the feature while composer Albert Glasser provided the film's score. The film, a Japanese-American co-production, starred Florence Marly and Robert Peyton in the lead roles while Tetsu Nakamura played the antagonist. Plot In the "early summer of 1950", Martin Greer is the engineer for a small construction company, Greer and Sons, working with his father. An Army combat engineer for four years during World War II, he and wife Nancy have two young children. ''The Steel Helmet'' is a 1951 American war film directed, written, and produced by Samuel Fuller during the Korean War. The cast stars Gene Evans, Robert Hutton, Steve Brodie, James Edwards, and Richard Loo. It was the first American film about the war, and the first of several war films by Fuller. Plot A U.S. Army unit surrenders to the North Koreans; they are then bound and summarily executed. Only Sergeant Zack survives the massacre, saved when the bullet meant for him is deflected by his helmet. ''Unsung Heroes'', also known as ''Unknown Heroes'' or more literally as ''Nameless Heroes'', is a North Korean war drama mini-series about a spy in Seoul during the Korean War. Over twenty hours long, it was filmed and released in multiple parts between 1978 and 1981. It was the recipient of the Kim Il-sung Medal. Production and reaction The production of ''Unsung Heroes'' began in or around 1978 on the initiative of Kim Jong-il when he took charge of the country's propaganda affairs. ''Unsung Heroes'' received a widespread favourable reception in the domestic market, according to North Korean public media. Lead actor Kim Ryong-lin, who played the hero Yu Rim, stated that it was one of his favourite roles in over 20 years of acting; in a 1981 interview, he remarked that people had begun calling him Yu Rim instead of his real name after the series began, which he actually enjoyed because of his admiration for the character.
