Jordan
Jordan ( ar, الأردن; tr. ' ), officially the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan,; tr. ' is a country in Western Asia. It is situated at the crossroads of Asia, Africa, and Europe, within the Levant region, on the East Bank of the Jordan River. Jordan is bordered by Saudi Arabia to the south and east, Iraq to the northeast, Syria to the north, and the Palestinian West Bank, Israel, and the Dead Sea to the west. It has a coastline in its southwest on the Gulf of Aqaba's Red Sea, which separates Jordan from Egypt. Amman is Jordan's capital and largest city, as well as its economic, political, and cultural centre. Modern-day Jordan has been inhabited by humans since the Paleolithic period. Ina'am Al-Mufti
Ina'am Qaddoura Al-Mufti ( ar, إنعام قدورة المفتي; February 26, 1929 – 6 November 2018) was the first Jordanian woman to hold a governmental position. Biography Qaddoura established the Ministry of Social Development, Noor Al-Hussein Foundation, Women Issues Organization, Jubilee School of Amman, Children's Trust, Union of Jordanian Women, and National Union for Jordanian Business Women. Nasr Abdel Aziz Eleyan
Nasr Abdel Aziz Eleyan ( ar, نصر عبد العزيز born 1941), is a Palestinian artist and a television interior designer/producer. He was born in the former village of az-Zakariyya, north of Hebron in the Mandatory Palestine. The town was captured by Israeli forces during the 1948 Israeli assault on Palestine. Nasr grew up in the Palestinian refugee camp of Ein as-Sultan near Jericho, where he began painting as a child. He studied fine arts and film in Moscow, Baghdad, Cairo and London. His daughter is film director Hanadi Elyan. He currently lives in Amman, Jordan where he teaches fine arts at the University of Jordan. Style Nasr is a figurative painter whose individual style is concerned with cultural traditions. Alia Abu Tayeh
Dr. Alia Mohammed Odeh Abu Tayeh (1953 – July 27, 2019) was a Jordanian politician and educator. She was the first Bedouin to serve on the Jordanian Senate. Life She was born in 1953 and educated at the University of Jordan. She had completed her secondary education in Ma'an and she was one of the first Bedouin women to receive an education. Fayez Tarawneh
Fayez Tarawneh ( ar, فايز الطراونة; '; 1 May 1949 – 15 December 2021) was a Jordanian independent politician, who served twice as the 31st Prime Minister of Jordan, and also as Chief of the Royal Hashemite Court. Early life and education Tarawneh was born on 1 May 1949. He received a bachelor's degree in economy from the University of Jordan. He also obtained a master's degree in 1974 and a PhD in 1980 in economics, both from the University of Southern California. Career Tarawneh was Jordanian ambassador to the United States from 1993 until 1997, and headed the Jordanian delegation that was in charge of peace negotiations with Israel in 1994. Then he was appointed Prime Minister and served in this post from 20 August 1998 to 4 March 1999, the last Prime Minister under King Hussein, who died in February 1999. Bahjat Talhouni
Bahjat Talhouni ( ar, بهجت التلهوني; 1913 – January 30, 1994) was a Jordanian political figure. He served as the 14th Prime Minister of Jordan between 1960 and 1970 for six different terms. Talhouni was Prime Minister from August 1969 to June 1970, during a particularly turbulent time of friction and skirmishes between the Government and thousands of Palestinian guerrillas who were then in Jordan. The Palestinian guerrillas, members of various organizations, frequently disregarded Jordanian laws and came to be almost a state within a state. In February 1970, King Hussein of Jordan met with their leaders at Talhouni's house in Amman. At that meeting the King agreed not to enforce restrictions on the Palestinians carrying firearms in Jordanian towns, and the leaders of the guerrillas promised to try to make their followers less unruly. Tareq Suheimat
Tareq Salah Attalla Suheimat (23 September 1936 – 21 July 2014), was a distinguished Jordanian physician, nephrologist, military General, and statesman. Born in the historic city of Al-Karak in southern Jordan, Suheimat studied in Amman's schools and then studied medicine in a number of universities, institutes and hospitals in the United Kingdom and the United States of America. Salah al-Din Attallah Suheimat ( ar, صلاح الدين عطالله السحيمات) MP (1914 – 30 November 1966) was a Member of the Parliament of Jordan on the banner of the city Al Karak. Born in 1914, the son of Sheikh Attallah Suheimat, a national leader, who was a member of the first Legislative Council of the Emirate of Transjordan and held several political positions in the Ottoman Empire and later Transjordan and the grandson of Sheikh Sulieman effendi Suheimat who was a national leader and a member of the first municipal council of the city of Karak during the reign of the Ottoman Empire in the 1890s. Sheikh Attallah Suheimat or Attlallah Pasha Suheimat (1875 - 28 July 1965) was an Arab and Jordanian leader, politician, and a statesperson. Born in the historic city of Al Karak, south of Jordan. He was the son of Sheikh Sulieman effendi Suheimat who was a national leader and a Member of the first municipal council of the city of Karak during the reign of the Ottoman Empire in the 1890s. Abdelraouf Rawabdeh
Abdelraouf al-Rawabdeh ( ar, عبد الرؤوف الروابدة; born 18 February 1939 in Irbid) was the 32nd Prime Minister of Jordan from 4 March 1999 until 19 June 2000, a leading political figure from the north city of Irbid in Jordan. Political experience In 1983 Al-Rawabdeh became the Mayor of Amman and would serve in that position until 1989. In 1989 he then joined the Jordanian Parliament as a member of the 11th Parliament of Jordan, and again 1993 and 1997 until 2001 in the 12th and 13th Parliament of Jordan respectively. On 24 October 2013 he was named President of the Senate. Al-Rawabdeh is the first President of the enlarged Senate, which now has 75 members, where previously there had been 60 members.
