The office of the Israeli Ambassador to the United States of America is the ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary from the State of Israel to the United States of America. It is generally regarded as the most prestigious position in the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs due to the close diplomatic and military relationship between the two countries. Emblem Of Israel
The Emblem of Israel ( he, סמל מדינת ישראל, Sēmel Medīnat Yīsrāʾēl; ar, شعار دولة إسرائيل, translit=Shiʾeer Dawlat ʾIsrāʾīl) depicts a temple menorah surrounded by an olive branch on each side, with the word ''Israel'' written in Hebrew () below it. While it is commonly displayed in blue and white, the emblem has appeared in alternative colour combinations depending on the use, such as on the Israeli Presidential Standard (see below). History The State of Israel adopted the symbol after a design competition held in 1948. The design is based on the winning entry submitted by Gabriel and Maxim Shamir's proposal, with elements taken from other submissions, including entries from Oteh Walisch, W. Meir Rosenne
Meir Rosenne ( he, מאיר רוזן; 19 February 1931 – 14 April 2015) was an Israeli lawyer and diplomat. Biography Meir Rosenhaupt (later Rosen) was born in Jassy, Romania. In 1941 he witnessed the Iași pogrom. He immigrated to Mandatory Palestine in 1944, escaping from Europe on the Turkish boat ''Kazbek'' which departed from the Romanian port of Constanţa. In the 1950s he studied law at the Sorbonne and obtained his Ph.D. in 1957. Rosenne died on 14 April 2015, aged 84. Diplomatic career Rosenne joined the foreign service in 1953 and served between 1961 and 1967 as consul in New York. From 1971 until 1979 he served as legal adviser to the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs and played an important part in the negotiations for the Camp David Accords and the Israeli-Egyptian peace treaty. The United States ambassador to Israel is the official representative of the president of the United States to the head of state of Israel. Until 1948 the area that is now the state of Israel had been under British administration as part of the League of Nations/United Nations Mandatory Palestine, British Mandate for Palestine. David Elkana Ivry ( he, דוד אלקנה עברי; born 1934) is a Major General (retired) in the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF). He was the Israeli Ambassador to the United States from 2000 to 2002, and the ninth commander of the Israeli Air Force (IAF). Eliyahu Ben-Elissar ( he, אליהו בן אלישר, born 2 August 1932, died 12 August 2000) was an Israeli politician and diplomat. Biography Born Eli Gottlieb in Radom in Poland in 1932, Ben-Elissar was the son of a distinguished family. His parents were Eliezer and Hela (née Dobrzynska) Gottlieb. Eliezer and his brother, Jacob, owned and operated Brago, a successful foundry. Eli was the youngest of three siblings. The eldest, a sister Diana, was born on 7 August 1923, and a brother, Nathan, was born on 21 November 1925. Ten-year-old Gottlieb immigrated to Mandate Palestine in 1942 with some members of a Radomer family named Graucher using a visa originally obtained for a son who had already been deported by the Nazis. Ironically, the name of the child who perished so that Eli would survive was named Natan Chaim (Hebrew for "he gave life").
