Sir Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill (30 November 187424 January 1965) was a British statesman, soldier, and writer who served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom twice, from 1940 to 1945 during the Second World War, and again from 1951 to 1955. Jewad Selim (1919–1961) ( ar, جواد سليم) was an Iraqi painter and sculptor born in Ankara, Ottoman Empire in 1919. He became an influential artist through his involvement with the Iraqi Baghdad Modern Art Group, which encouraged artists to explore techniques that combined both Arab heritage and modern art forms. Suad Al-Attar
Suad al-Attar (Arabic, سعاد العطار) (born 1942) is an Iraqi painter whose work is in private and public collections worldwide, including The British Museum and the Gulbenkian Collection. She has held over twenty solo exhibitions, including one in Baghdad that became the first solo exhibition in the country's history for a woman artist. Her many awards include the first prize at the International Biennale in Cairo in 1984 and an award of distinction at the Biennale held in Malta in 1995. Life and career Suad at-Attar painted from a very young age. She was "discovered" by the influential Iraqi artist, Jawad Saleem after exhibiting in a high school event. Yitzhak Yamin
Yitzhak Yamin ( he, יצחק ימין; born 1938 – 21 March 2020) was an Iraqi-born Israeli painter and sculptor. Biography Yitzhak Yamin was born in Iraq. In 1951, he immigrated to Israel and lived with his parents and eleven brothers and sisters in a ma'abara transit camp near Jerusalem. At the age of sixteen, Yamin left home and dedicated himself to art. In 1961 he graduated from the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem. In the sixties Yamin won the Sharett Foundation scholarship for young artists, and studied under the Viennese artist Ernst Fuchs. Artistic style Yamin's art utilizes a variety of painting techniques, such as sketch, watercolor painting, tempera paintings and oil on canvas. Layla Al-Attar
Layla Al-Attar ( ar, ليلى العطار; May 7, 1944 – June 27, 1993) was an Iraqi artist and painter who became the Director of the Iraqi National Art Museum. Through her art, al-Attar expressed ideals that attempted to recognize the importance of women in all spheres of society. Life and career Al-Attar graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Baghdad in 1965, and was among the first female graduates from that program. She became the Director of the Center for National Art (now the Iraqi Museum of Modern Art), a post she held until her death in 1993. Al-Attar held five one-woman shows in Iraq, and took part in all national and other collective exhibitions held in the country and abroad.
