List Of Independent Lens Films
This is a list of films from the ''Independent Lens'' series on PBS. All airdates are relative to this series as many of these films were screened, either in theaters or on television, before becoming a part of the ''Independent Lens'' series. After the third season, PBS expanded and relaunched the series in 2003 declaring what is technically the fourth season as the new first season. As a result, any reference made by PBS or ITVS to a season number will be three less than the number represented in this list. For example, PBS declares the 2007-2008 season as season 6, but this complete list shows it as season 9. The 2014-2015 season is regarded as the 13th season for the series. Independent Lens
''Independent Lens'' is a weekly television series airing on PBS featuring documentary films made by independent filmmakers. Past seasons of ''Independent Lens'' were hosted by Angela Bassett, Don Cheadle, Susan Sarandon, Edie Falco, Terrence Howard, Maggie Gyllenhaal, America Ferrera, Mary-Louise Parker, and Stanley Tucci, who served two stints as host from 2012-2014. The series began in 1999 and for three years aired 10 episodes each fall season. In 2002, PBS announced that in 2003 the series would relaunch with ITVS as the production company, under the leadership of Sally Jo Fifer and Lois Vossen, and would expand to 29 primetime episodes a year. Paul Devlin (filmmaker)
Paul Josiah Devlin is an American sports editor and documentary filmmaker. Education Devlin is a B.A. graduate of the University of Michigan. While in high school he penned a now widely-shared - especially during the annual college admission season - 'I reject your rejection' letter to Harvard (and other colleges) that sent him rejections. ''Power Trip'' is a documentary film by director Paul Devlin that describes the electricity crisis in the country of Georgia several years after the fall of the Soviet Union. In 1999, Georgia's government sold the electric utility company Telasi to AES Corporation, a multinational company headquartered in Virginia. The film follows several AES-Telasi employees as the company tries to turn a profit and ensure that power is consistently available to customers in the face of widespread corruption and failure to pay electricity bills by both commercial and residential customers. Los Angeles Now is a 60-minute documentary by producer/director Phillip Rodriguez. It first aired in November 2004 on PBS’s Independent Lens series. The documentary examines the ways in which changing demographics in the City of Los Angeles have created one of the largest and most diverse cities on Earth and, yet in spite of this, the entertainment industry's representations of Los Angeles remain stale, often overlooking the city's vast cultural transformation. Ron Lamothe
Ron Lamothe (born 1968) is a director of documentary films and the founder of Terra Incognita Films. In 2000, Lamothe began pre-production on ''The Political Dr. Seuss'', a documentary on the life and "political" works of Theodor Geisel. In 2004, the documentary aired nationwide on PBS as the season premiere of Independent Lens. It was subsequently nominated for a George Foster Peabody Award in documentary television. Sam Green is an American documentary filmmaker. His most recent projects are “live documentaries” in which he narrates a film in-person while musicians perform a live soundtrack.
