Houston Astros
The Houston Astros are an American professional baseball team based in Houston, Texas. The Astros compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the American League (AL) West division, having moved to the division in 2013 after spending their first 51 seasons in the National League (NL). The Astros were established as the Houston Colt .45s and entered the National League as an expansion team in along with the New York Mets. The current name, reflecting Houston's role as the host of the Johnson Space Center, was adopted three years later, when they moved into the Astrodome, the first domed sports stadium and the so-called "Eighth Wonder of the World." Harold Beland "Spec" Richardson (October 27, 1922 – April 12, 2016) was an American professional baseball executive. He served as the general manager of two Major League Baseball teams, the Houston Astros (1967–75) and San Francisco Giants (1976–81). Career A native of Columbus, Georgia, Richardson began his baseball career in 1946 as concessions manager of the minor league Columbus Cardinals of the Class A Sally League. He advanced to business manager, and switched to the rival Jacksonville Tars (later the ''Braves'') in 1949, staying with that franchise through 1958. He then served as general manager of the Houston Buffaloes of the Triple-A American Association from 1959–61. Dana Allen Brown (born February 19, 1967) is an American baseball executive. He is the general manager of the Houston Astros of Major League Baseball. Brown grew up in New Brunswick, New Jersey and attended New Brunswick High School. He enrolled at Seton Hall University, where he played college baseball for the Seton Hall Pirateswith future Major Leaguers Mo Vaughn, Craig Biggio, John Valentin, and Kevin Morton. The Philadelphia Phillies selected Brown in the 35th round of the 1989 Major League Baseball draft, and he played Minor League Baseball in the Phillies organization for three seasons. James Click (born February 14, 1978) is an American baseball executive who is the former general manager of the Houston Astros of Major League Baseball. Click served in the Tampa Bay Rays organization for 15 years before being hired by the Astros as their general manager in January 2020. Early life Click is from Durham, North Carolina. He graduated from Yale University in 2000 with a Bachelor of Arts in history. After he graduated, Click wrote for ''Baseball Prospectus'', helping to maintain their PECOTA algorithm. Jeff Luhnow (born June 8, 1966) is a Mexican-American former baseball executive and owner of Mexican club Cancún F.C. and CD Leganés of Spain. He worked for the St. Louis Cardinals in their scouting department from 2003 through 2011, before joining the Astros in December 2011. On January 13, 2020, Luhnow was fired by the Astros after Major League Baseball suspended him for the entire 2020 season as a result of the electronic sign-stealing scandal. Ed Wade (born January 31, 1956) is an American former professional baseball executive, who served as general manager of the Houston Astros and the Philadelphia Phillies of Major League Baseball (MLB). Early career in baseball After graduating from Temple University in 1977, Wade started his baseball career as an intern in the Philadelphia Phillies’ public relations department. Timothy Gerard Purpura (born March 19, 1958 in Oak Lawn, Illinois) is an American baseball executive and former lawyer. He is the former General Manager of the Houston Astros Major League Baseball team. He was with the club from 2005 to 2007. Gerald Hunsicker (born June 10, 1950) is an American baseball executive. He is the senior advisor of baseball operations for the Los Angeles Dodgers of Major League Baseball. Robert José Watson (April 10, 1946May 14, 2020) was an American professional baseball player, coach and general manager. He played in Major League Baseball as a first baseman and left fielder from 1966 to 1984, most prominently as a member of the Houston Astros where he was a two-time All-Star player. Watson had a .295 batting average over a career that also saw him play for the Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, and the Atlanta Braves. Bill Wood (born 1941) is an American former baseball executive. He was the general manager (baseball), general manager (GM) of the Houston Astros from 1987 to 1993.
